Mets Minor League Games - 5-16-15

Met minor teams win 3 of 4, with the only game lost having 3 major leaguers (Gee, Parnell, and Black) pitching in it.  Gee was fine, the other 2 each gave up a run.

Minor League Player of The Night - Tyler Pill, for a nice and rare 8 inning outing.

Honorable Mention - Travis Taijeron for 3 hits, a homer, and no Ks. A .344 average, with pop.

AAA - Las Vegas - (25-12) 6 - Tacoma (15-22) 3

    RHSP Tyler Pill - 8 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 0 BB, 5 K.  2nd straight fine outing.

   RF Travis Taijeron 3-5, HR (6), 2 RBI, .344

Also, 3 hits by Brandon Allen, and 2 each by TJ Rivera (1st AAA game), Reynolds, Muno, and Ceciliani (.341). 10 innings.

AA - Binghamton (21-15) 6 - New Hampshire (17-19) 1

    RHSP John Gant -  6.0-IP, 4-H, 1-R, 4-K, 2-BB, 4.18

Mack - This is Gant's third quality start this year, out of six. A 4.18-ERA is not bad considering he was promoted this year two levels. To me, Gant seems to have future SP5 possibilities, though probably not on the Mets. He could easily become one of the many pitchers that could be traded for depth at other positions in the organization.

    LHRP Adam Kolarek -  3.0-IP, 1-H, 0-R, 1-K, 0-BB, 4.71

    LF Jayce Boyd - 2-4, 2-R, 2-RBI, .292

Mack - Is the switch of Boyd to outfield working? Well, he's had only two errors in 30 games played.

Night and day...Kolarek went from totally awful in the first few weeks, to completely terrific ever since. Lowering his ERA by nearly 10 runs, he has been unscored on in his last 7 outings covering 14 innings.

A+ - Charlotte (25-11) 10  - St. Lucie (15-21)  4

    RHSP Dillon Gee - 4.0-IP, 6-H, 1-R, 7-K, 0-BB, 2.25

    RHRP Vic Black -  1.0-IP, 2-H, 1-R, 0-K, 1-BB, 6.00

    RHRP Bobby Parnell - 1,0-IP, 1-H, 1-R, 1-K, 2-BB, 12.71

Mack - Gee had a decent outing and Black did okay, but Parnell continues to struggle with both command and velocity.

Another hitless night for Michael Conforto, down to .271.

A - Savannah (13-21) 5  - Lexington (15-20) 2

    RHSP Josh Prevost - 8.0-IP, 10-H, 2-R, 5-K, 1-BB, 4.74

Mack - Prevost's eight innings stint is the highest for any Mets minor league pitcher this season.

    CF Patrick Biondi -  2-4, 2-R, .316

    LF John Mora -  2-3, 1-R, 2-RBI, .271

Nice 4 run 8th to rally for the win, the stuff that can lift a team to higher performance.

GOATS: the St Lucie bullpen, which allowed 9 runs after Gee's 4 strong innings. Secrest and Coles surrendered 7 runs in 2 innings.

  1. Almost every AAA stud reliever starting the season has taken hi lumps this season...save one: Akeel Morris, who has seen a little less time of late due to the need to use Gee, Parnell, and Black.

Morris (only 2 games since May 4, which is odd) most likely gets to see if he can extend his 28 out hitless streak tonight. Hasn't allowed a hit since April 21.

Interesting (to perhaps only me) the kid listed at a skinny 170 pounds last years is now at a man-sized 195.

I assume he is healthy. Let's get him 2 innings tonight.

In the interests of fair and balaned reporting, 6'6" righty reliever Mike Hepple in St Lucie has at the same time gone 8 1/3 innings without surrendering a hit. Not as many Ks as Akeel, but also highly impressive. Can they both keep it up until, say, September?
