New Hampshire 4 - Binghamton 3

The Binghamton Mets left 10 men on-base in their 4-3 loss against the New Hampshire Fisher CatsThursday night at NYSEG Stadium. Binghamton left a runner on in each of the final eight innings, going 2-for-13 when batting with men in scoring position.

The B-Mets got the go-ahead run on-base with one out in the ninth inning in front of Jayce Boyd. But one night after leaving eight men on-base by himself, Boyd bounced in to a 5-4-3 game ending double play, stranding the tying run on-base. The B-Mets are batting .151 with men in scoring position over their last five games, going 1-4 during that span.

New Hampshire struck first, using small ball to get on the board in the first inning. Jon Berti led off the game with a single, stole second base and moved to third on a ground out. With two outs, Kevin Nolan got the Fisher Cats on the board with a base hit to right field.

New Hampshire later used the long ball to add to their lead, as Shane Opitz launched his first home of the season well beyond the right field wall with two outs in the second.

Trailing 3-0, Binghamton got on the board in the fifth inning. After the first two reached, a fielder’s choice put men on the corners with one out for Jared King. King snuck a ground ball into right field to drive in his 19th run of the season. Taylor Cole would escape further trouble, stranding two more B-Mets on base.

Binghamton was right back at it, getting the first two guys on-base to begin the sixth inning as well. Danny Barnes relived Cole with one out in the frame and was greeted with an RBI single to centerfield from Xorge Carrillo, getting Binghamton within one. The B-Mets stranded two more in the inning.

New Hampshire widened the gap in the seventh with a leadoff double and a walk against Luis Cessa. A passed ball moved the two into scoring position and Berti drove one in with a sacrifice fly to right field. Adam Kolarek came on to strike out the next two batters, stranding a man at third base.

Binghamton cut the deficit in half in the eighth inning, leading off the frame with a single and a walk. The two runners were advanced to scoring position on a Carrillo sacrifice bunt. Gavin Cecchini followed by grounding out to short, plating a run to get Binghamton within one. Eudy Pina then struck out, stranding the tying run in scoring position.

The B-Mets began the ninth inning by getting King on-base on a Jorge Flores error at shortstop. After a fly out, TJ Rivera singled to put two on with one out. Luis Perez then induced a game ending double play ball from Boyd to close out the 4-3 Fisher Cat win. It was Perez’s first career save.

Cole (1-3) got his first Eastern League win, allowing two runs in 5 1/3 innings. Cessa (3-2) picked up the loss, allowing four runs and four hits in 6 1/3 innings. The B-Mets bullpen retired all eight batters faced.

The B-Mets (19-15) continue their series with the Fisher Cats Friday night, with a 7:05 PM first pitch at NYSEG Stadium. Binghamton RHP Michael Fulmer (1-0, 3.60) gets the ball against RHP Joel Pineiro (--).
