5/25/15

Rome 5 - Savannah 1

The Sand Gnats plated the first run of the game in the opening frame, but couldn't duplicate that success and fall, 5-1. Braves use three pitchers to hold the Gnats to just the one run at State Mutual Stadium.
The Gnats (19-24) started the game's scoring when LF John Mora tripled to right. Mora scored on a ground ball from 3B Eudor Garcia, it would be the only offense the Gnats found on Sunday.
Rome (19-24) used back-to-back singles from RF Braxton Davidson and LF Stephen Gaylor to start the second inning. Davidson scored on a wild pitch by Gnats starter RHP Scarlyn Reyes (3-4) and Gaylor was plated by the third straight single in the inning from 2B Erison Mendez.
Both starters, Reyes for Savannah and RHP Caleb Beech (4-2), each lasted seven innings. Beech earned the win after allowing just the one run on six hits. Reyes allowed three runs (all earned) and struck out two.
Gaylor scored in the sixth inning on an RBI-single by CF Joseph Daris. Gaylor was 2-for-4 on the day and scored three runs totaled in the series finale. Davidson and Gaylor teamed-up again to lead off the eighth with singles and Mendez's double scored them both giving the game its 5-1 final.  Team press release
