Saturday afternoon/evening in Flushing Cameron Maybin’s 2
run single in the top of the 11th inning broke a 3 all tie. The
Braves come back to beat the Mets 5-3. Jacob deGrom started and continued his
string of dominant outings on the day. His only mistake was yielding a long
solo homer to Freddie Freeman in the 1st inning. The dinger reached
the Shea Bridge and for Freeman it was his 12th on the year. That’s all the Braves got off deGrom who went
7 innings allowing 5 hits 1 run (earned) 1 walk and 9 strikeouts. Shelby Miller started for the Braves and held
the Mets scoreless till the 7th when they broke though. Juan Lagares
hit a pinch hit single. Curtis Granderson hit a double down the right field
line to make it 2nd and 3rd. That brought up Travis d’Arnaud
who fisted a single to center scoring both runners for a 2-1 lead. d’Arnaud advance to 2nd on a wild
pitch. Lucas Duda then hit his 2nd
double of the game bringing home d’Arnaud for a 3-1 lead. With two outs in the bottom of the 8th
inning, Bobby Parnell came in a game for the first time since opening day 2014.
His return from Tommy John surgery was successfully as he allowed a single to
Jonny Gomes but then retired the side getting A.J. Pierzynski to ground out. The Braves came back to tie the game in the 9th.
Hansel Robles had a chance to notch his 1st Major League save but he
gave up an RBI single to Maybin to make it 3-2. Alex Torres was summoned to face
Freeman, and he singled home the game tying run and it was 3-3. That set up the
trip to extra innings and Maybin’s winning hit off Carlos Torres. A brilliant
outing by deGrom is wasted. Andrelton
Simmons had 4 hits on the day, Maybin drove in 3 and Freeman drove in 2 for the
Braves. For the Mets, Duda and Granderson led the way with a pair of hits apiece. Danny Muno playing 3rd became the
first Met since David Wright in 2006 to make 3 errors in a game. Carlos Torres
takes the loss falling to 2-3. Jason Grilli notched the win he’s 2-2. Williams
Perez notched his 1st Major
League save. With the loss this 3 games
set is tied at 1 apiece. The Mets fall to 33-30 on the year and 23-11 at Citi
Field. The Nationals won on Saturday so
the Mets now hold a ½ game lead in the
NL East. Sunday afternoon the Mets go for a series win. Dillon Gee (0-3 4.50)
goes for the Amazins, Mike Foltynewicz (3-2 4.72) goes for Atlanta.
My brother was fuming, "why does Collins EVER pitch to Freddie Freeman?" I hope Familia is enjoying his maternity leave.
ReplyDeleteMuno swan song yesterday?
