    1. I hope he fits and doesn't cost too much in terms of assets

  2. So far it sounds like it's either Cespedes or Gomez.

    I'm hoping for Gomez.

  3. I'm seeing Niese for Cespedes...we keep our prospects but Niese's loss will hurt.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Now I'm seeing Upton removed from Padres game. Could be on the move but not necessarily to us...

    ReplyDelete
  5. So, it's a 'major' deal that 'would please Mets fans' according to Rubin. I wouldn't call Cespedes pleasing.

  6. Upton tweet was from a fake account.....

Rumor is currently Zack Wheeler + Wilmer Flores for Gomez

    1. I won't cry at that, especially if we sign Gomez LT. I saw that Milwaukee seems to love Flores, might as well get value for him.

  7. I wonder if Flores inclusion could mean Segura is part of the deal.

  8. Wheeler and Flores for Gomez seems a little light, I'd think that the Brewers would want more like an OF to eventually replace Gomez in CF (Nimmo) or one of the pitching prospects like Fulmer or Ynoa. If the Mets only give up Flore and Wheeler for Gomez, that's a huge coup for the Mets and I'd pretty pissed if I were a Brewer fan.

    1. If that's the deal, we still have enough assets to go get another RH corner OF to hit in the middle of the lineup. Hell, with Milwaukee on the phone I'd try for a Gomez/Braun blockbuster and start printing WS tickets.

  9. Wheeler, Lagares, Flores, ++??
To get Gomez and Braun and/or Segura?

    ReplyDelete
  10. I'd go Wheeler, Flores, Lagares, Nimmo, Herrera, and a P for Braun and Gomez.

Wrecking ball lineup, steamroller pitching staff. We know what they'd add this year, next year and forward:

SS Cecchini (Tejada until Cheech is ready)
    CF Gomez
    LF Conforto
    RF Braun
    1B Duda
    3B Wright
    2B Johnson? Murphy?
    Ca d'Arnaud

    SP1 Harvey
    SP2 deGrom
    SP3 Matz
    SP4 Syndergaard
    SP5 Niese

Wright is penciled in 6th depending on health, of course rearrange and hit him higher if he can.

    1. We get a sizable window to finally win and be "favorites" as well as refill gaps in the farm.

  11. My guess is that it would be Wheeler, Flores, and either Nimmo or Lagares for Gomez. The only the Mets would get Gomez and Braun would involve giving up one of their big 4, which they would not do. Segura added would probably cost Fulmer or Ynoa and probably Cecchini. In any case it would be a huge Mets win in any of these trade scenarios.

    Mets To Acquire Carlos Gomez
By Tim Dierkes [July 29, 2015 at 8:01pm CDT]

The Mets have acquired Carlos Gomez, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post. He says the deal is done pending physicals.

  13. Good trade, still time to add another hitter. If not, we have plenty of pieces to deal in the offseason to finally complete the rebuild. We're one player away. Flores is a spare part with obvious flaws and who knows how/when Wheeler's return will be. An AS CF for an injured pitcher and a flawed infielder. Welcome home Carlos.

    ReplyDelete
  14. If there is one thing we should learn from this trade deadline, it should be that none of us know what it really costs in prospects to get these deals done.
For the most part, all of our guesses have been too heavy in cost to the Mets.

    1. It's what always happens, people have selective amnesia about previous deadline deals.

  15. If it's just Wheeler and Flores for Gomez, that's a steal! We trade our past All-Star CF to acquire Wheeler and swap him five years later for another All-Star CF. Zach served us well!

    1. Carlos--->Zach--->Carlos

And it's our former CF of the future too.

      So glad it wasn't Cespedes.

  16. i am surprised at this if it goes through. especilly if legares is in it. if he is i hope it includes the ss too from the brewers.

  17. Love this deal. Wheeler was decent but never as good as the other 4 and has a long recovery still ahead. Herrera slides in to replace Flores. Plenty of 5th starter options with Niese, Montero, Fulmer, Verrett

    ReplyDelete
  18. This is sweet. Gomez will ignite the lineup and the clubhouse. Nice work by the front office.
They kept the prospects at AA that everyone was talking about going the other way in any deal.

    ReplyDelete
  19. If the deal is done, why is Flores still playing?

If Flores is traded, who is the backup SS? Might Ceccini or Reynolds, or even Tovar, get a call?

There's more to this story than meets the eye.

    ReplyDelete
  20. AWFUL trade. We just gave up Wheeler for a guy whose numbers are worse than Uribe's and Johnson's this year.

I think you all are delusional and deal-crazy.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Im ok with the trade.
Love him or hate him, sandy Alderson and company have acquired 4 major league players for the playoff push. They gave up three minor league pitchers not named fulmer, an injured starter and a player without a position.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Perfectly put Ernest. Brewers get 3+ years of Wheeler we get 1.5 of Gomez. If he leaves we get a first round pick instead of nothing. Flores could one day break out with the bat, but who knows? Can we punt Colon now?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Well stated Ernest.

Sal, Gomez has been hurt this year, just getting back on track. Look at his #s over the past three seasons-offensively and defensively. We now have two of the best defensive CFers in the game. This trade allows Lagares to get his TJS and be back early 2016. You don't know what Wheeler will be after his TJS and with the emergence of Matz and arrival of Thor this year, as well as the development of Fulmer and others, Zach became an extra arm who became their best trade chip.

  24. but for real, collins needs to get flores out of the game. terry is a crappy manager. and this is mean.

    1. I hope they gave him the option to play or not. If not, totally classless. I feel for the kid.

  25. @Sal

I assume you are only looking at batting average.....AVG is not everything.

    Kelly Johnson .772 OPS
    Carlos Gomez .767 OPS
    Juan Uribe .743 OPS

    Wilmer Flores .660 OPS
    Juan Lagares .612 OPS

This is a HUGE upgrade for the Mets.

Of the Big prospect SPs....Wheeler was the most inefficient one. He consistently struggled to get through 5IP without throwing 100 pitches and now he is a significant risk as he recovers from significant Tmmy John + additional injuries. He's not even going to be in an MLB game until June of 2017.

    ReplyDelete
  26. *June of 2016

And I'm aware he's been hurt. He's still had 286 ABs and is behind his usual pace in a lot of categories.

  27. Sal -

Carlos Gomez OPS, last 44 games: .759

  28. A word of warning -

    From ...

    Michael Baron ‏@michaelgbaron
I could be mistaken but am almost sure of this. Zack Wheeler did not start throwing on Monday without a final examination on his elbow.

Flores may still be in the game because Wheeler may not have passed the physical at this point.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Well......as of 10:08pm EST, it appears the Mets still have Fulmer (ERA under 1.00 last like 8 starts), checchini (another 4hit game tonight) , nimmo (now at aaa) and Dom Smith (29th double tonight........29th......)

  31. WELCOME HOME CARLOS!!!

Having said that, I heard Keith say the person getting the worst of this is Zack Wheeler. Has to change the site and the people rehabbing him (and say what you will, the Mets do an excellent job rehabbing TJ patients). Actually, Flores, too. He's been a part of the Mets for 8 years according to GKR, and Terry is leaving him out on the fields with tears coming from his eyes. C'mon Terry, TAKE HIM OUT OF THE GAME YOU IDIOT!!!! Or are you trying to toughen him up - make a MAN out of him

    ReplyDelete
  32. So Gomez goes to LF until Cuddyer is ready or we keep Conforto in LF and Lagares stays on bench? Seems like Lagares would have been a better piece to trade than Flores , but let's face it Flores is a bat with no position.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Obviously it is not yet a done deal as Flores would no longer be eligible to play for the Mets. The prudent thing for the manager to do, of course, would be to put his pet out there at shortstop and let Flores process what has prematurely been leaked. Real MGR of the Year highlight reel stuff tonight.

However, this is uncharacteristic of any of Sandy Alderson's negotiations to be so public, so I'm reserving judgment until we find out the outcome of physicals and other players who may or may not be involved.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Wheeler also uses the infamous inverted-W pitching motion which makes him more likely have more TJ problems.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Not a done deal yet. Collins unaware Flores was traded. Ken Rosenthal, when asked why Flores was still at SS in 9th, "The entire world has jumped the gun" (regarding the trade). This must all be pending Wheeler's physical.

    ReplyDelete
  36. No deal??!!
    Wow.....
Why does the crazy stuff always seem to happen to the Mets?

I guess this situation can be explained by a fan base and home media that has been starving for the team to be exciting again.

    ReplyDelete
  37. The latest from SA, "The deal will not transpire":

The reported deal sending Brewers OF Carlos Gomez to the Mets for Zack Wheeler and Wilmer Flores “will not trasnpire,” Sandy Alderson told reporters.

    ReplyDelete
  38. So disappointing...was so thrilled with this deal. I wonder if the Brewers got a better offer and used medical to get out.

    ReplyDelete
  39. And from the White House President Dewey announced....

    Circle Jerk press, congratulations.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Take a starved fan base and home town media that is starved for their team to become exciting again after years of disappointment.

Add a few nice deals that lay a foundation for the bench and bullpen. Expectations grow.

Add exciting news like the reported Gomez acquisition for a redundant infielder and injured pitcher.

Subtract the incredible disappointment of learning there is in fact no deal after all.

    Result??? Devastating.

This will be tough for Alderson to deal with unless some deal occurs that acquires an equivalent or better player (s).
Fans and media will absolutely destroy him, whether it is justified or not.

  41. OK, reverse gears and go get someone not prominently mentioned in the rumors like the Phillies' Ben Revere.

    1. Now reporting Mets backed out due to a hip problem on Gomez ' s medicals??

I don't know here....even if there is some type of something, the price is a pitcher that may or may not return to form from TJS with additional complication of a torn tendon and a redundant infielder.

Gomez is performing decently considering his hamstring problem. If there is a hip issue is it really worth blowing the deal up considering his contract is up in 1 1/2 years?
he seems exactly what is needed for this year and it doesn't appear the hip would get in the way this year.

    2. If it's a legitimate concern than I don't blame Alderson...but this is fishy to say the least. Somehow this has to be the fault of a Wilpon.

      Delete
  43. It's not fishy. He has injuries, i.e., why his numbers are down (see my previous comments in the thread).

All the people commenting here are the ones who should feel a little embarrassed, not SA and the front office. You all are desperate, delusional, and awful, awful GMs.

WHY DO YOU WANT A CLEARLY DIMINISHED VERSION OF GOMEZ WHEN YOU"RE IN THE MIDDLE OF A PLAYOFF RACE? Wouldn't have taken long before you were slamming them for making the trade. It's such a joke.

GOOD JOB SA DOING YOUR HOMEWORK!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I'm disappointed, but I'm glad Sandy didn't give away our guys without doing his due diligence. Wheeler will heal, although he needs to make a change in his delivery if he doesn't want to be Brandon Beachy. Wilmer, you don't have to leave your friends after all. I'm glad you like being a Met so much. We like you too.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Regardless of whether the trade was official or not, Collins absolutely should have taken Flores out of the game and inserted Tejada.

    Dysfunction.
