Tuesday night in D.C., Eric Campbell singled home a pair of
runs to give the Mets the lead in top of
the 7th inning. The Mets beat the Nationals 7-2.
Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and continued his amazing sophomore season. The Amazins took a 1-0 lead in the 4th
when a broken bat infield single by Wilmer Flores brought home Curtis
Granderson. deGrom’s only mistake came
in the 5th when Yunel Escobar led off with a double. deGrom then
retired the next two batters and almost got out of the inning when Wilson Ramos
hit a opposite field 2 run homer, his 9th on the year and it was 2-1
Nats. The Mets took the lead for good in
the 7th. Flores singled. Kirk Nieuwenhuis reached on an error to make
to make it 2nd and 3rd.
That brought up Campbell who’s 2 run single to right brought the pair
home. In the top of the 9th the Mets scored 4 more times on RBI
singles by Granderson, Ruben Tejada and Daniel Murphy. Flores brought home the game’s final run on a
fielder’s choice. deGrom went 6 innings
allowing just 3 hits the 2 runs (earned) and striking out 8. He gets his 10th
win; he’s now 10-6. His ERA stands at 2.18.
The Mets got scoreless innings in the 7th, 8th and
9th from Jenrry Mejia, Bobby Parnell and Jeurys Familia to close it
out. Offensively the Mets managed 10
hits on the game. Flores went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI, Granderson also added 2 hits.
The Mets improve to 49-45 and are now 17-31 on the road. The pick up a game on the
Nats and are now 2 games back of 1st in the NL East. Wednesday afternoon it’s the rubber game of
the series. The game starts at 12:35 est.
Noah Syndergaard (4-5 3.05) looks to bring the Mets to within 1 game of the
Nats. Jordan Zimmerman (8-5 3.27) goes
for Washington.
I came home tonight at 830pm to an alternate universe. One in which the Mets drive in runs who are in scoring position, put up a touchdown in total and get an actual pinch HIT from the pinch hitter.
ReplyDeleteI've felt this many times before, and last night once again: I don't think Matt Williams is a good tactical manager. Hard to imagine his teams ever winning a World Series with that guy pushing the buttons. But baseball history is filled with great teams overcoming inept managers.
