Sunday in Los Angeles, Steven Matz was brilliant once again
and the Mets pounded out 15 hits as they blank the Dodgers 8-0. The Mets take 2
of 3 from their cousins on the left coast with the win. Matz once again was
terrific throwing 6 scoreless innings allowing just 2 hits while walking 2 and
striking out 8. The Mets took a 1-0 lead over the Dodgers and their starter
Mike Bolsinger in the top of the first when Curtis Granderson led off the game
with an infield hit. Daniel Murphy then singled him to 3rd. The scorching hot Wilmer Flores singled home
Granderson. The Mets scored 3 runs in
the top of the 4th on an RBI fielder’s choice by Matz (his 5th
RBI in two games) and RBI double by Granderson and a RBI infield single by
Flores and it was 4-0 Mets. The Mets made it 7-0 the 7th on a RBI
single by Ruben Tejada and then a 2 run sun-aided triple to right by Juan
Lagares. Flores completed a 4 for 5 day
with an RBI double in the 8th.
Flores drove in 3 and was 10 for 13 in the series. Tejada went 3 for 5 with 2 runs scored and
the RBI. Daniel Murphy went 3 for 4 and Lagares went 2 for 5 with a pair of RBI
as well. Matz gets the win he’s now 2-0 with a 1.32 ERA. Logan Verrett pitched
the final 3 innings allowing a hit and striking out 3 getting the save. Bolsinger takes the loss falling to 4-3. With
the win the Mets improve to 42-41 and are 13-27 on the road. Currently the Mets are 4 games behind the 1st
place Nationals (who play later) and 1 ½ ahead of the Braves in 3rd
place. Next up the Mets are off to San
Francisco for a 3 game set. Monday night
Jonathon Niese (3-8 3.90) goes for the Mets, Chris Heston (8-5 3.78) who no-hit
the Mets last time he faced them…goes for San Francisco.
We owe this Heston kid.
