July 5th 2015 -- Mets 8, Dodgers 0

Sunday in Los Angeles, Steven Matz was brilliant once again and the Mets pounded out 15 hits as they blank the Dodgers 8-0. The Mets take 2 of 3 from their cousins on the left coast with the win. Matz once again was terrific throwing 6 scoreless innings allowing just 2 hits while walking 2 and striking out 8. The Mets took a 1-0 lead over the Dodgers and their starter Mike Bolsinger in the top of the first when Curtis Granderson led off the game with an infield hit. Daniel Murphy then singled him to 3rd.  The scorching hot Wilmer Flores singled home Granderson.  The Mets scored 3 runs in the top of the 4th on an RBI fielder’s choice by Matz (his 5th RBI in two games) and RBI double by Granderson and a RBI infield single by Flores and it was 4-0 Mets. The Mets made it 7-0 the 7th on a RBI single by Ruben Tejada and then a 2 run sun-aided triple to right by Juan Lagares.  Flores completed a 4 for 5 day with an RBI double in the 8th.  Flores drove in 3 and was 10 for 13 in the series.  Tejada went 3 for 5 with 2 runs scored and the RBI. Daniel Murphy went 3 for 4 and Lagares went 2 for 5 with a pair of RBI as well. Matz gets the win he’s now 2-0 with a 1.32 ERA. Logan Verrett pitched the final 3 innings allowing a hit and striking out 3 getting the save.  Bolsinger takes the loss falling to 4-3. With the win the Mets improve to 42-41 and are 13-27 on the road.  Currently the Mets are 4 games behind the 1st place Nationals (who play later) and 1 ½ ahead of the Braves in 3rd place.  Next up the Mets are off to San Francisco for a 3 game set.
