Spring Training shot I got early this year. Urena was in St. Lucie before his injury and Montero will likely head there before long to continue his rehab process. |
In his first outing since shoulder problems landed him on the DL early in the season, RHP Rafael Montero pitched one inning for the GCL Mets, allowing one hit. He struck out one batter and walked none. After a leadoff single, Montero teamed up with Ali Sanchez for a caught stealing, which means Montero faced the minimum in his inning of work.
Also continuing his rehab assignment in the GCL is 3B prospect Jhoan Urena who has very much had a lost season.
Both players need strong second halves to reestablish themselves in the organization.
I, for one, am beyond excited Montero is back. He is one of my favorite players in baseball and I cannot help but think his shoulder woes are a direct result of the Mets yanking him around between the majors and minors and starting and relieving. Hopefully he can make a full and quick rehab assignment and fill in for Steven Matz while the Long Island native is nursing his lat.
I totally agree. Montero pitched so well at AAA Vegas. I have to image that given the chance and no injuries that he will be a solid pitcher. Would also put the Mets in a very good position if he builds up some value. If the Mets do trade Niese they need someone to step into that 5th spot next year until Wheeler is healthy (unless he steals his job). Wheeler is good but seems a few steps below the fab 4, he was improving but seems like he is going to probably need some bounce back time.
ReplyDeleteHey, man, rehab city today in the GCL.
ReplyDeleteBesides the wonderful Rafael Montero, two others.
One guy who is fighting his way back is Luis Mateo, who is now unscored on in three 1 inning outings for the GCL Mets. Let's see if Luis moves up fast. As I recall, he was as, or more highly thought of than Rafael Montero before hurting his arm in April 2013 and needing TJS.
And Jhoan Urena socked his 2nd HR in as many days there.
Absolutely the reason he Montero got hurt. The Mets learned nothing from the Mejia experience or the Scott Rice. Worse, they still have not learned and pitched Matz to 110 pitches on his first start, were told that he was sore, and started him again.
ReplyDeleteMets are the most unprofessional organization aside from the Marlins.
