St. Lucie Mets first baseman Dominic Smith has been named the Florida State League Player of the Month for June.
In June, Smith batted .352 in 26 games and he led the FSL in hits (38) and total bases (51). He was second in the league with 20 RBI. His 15 runs scored were tied for the fifth in the league.
Smith currently leads the FSL with 25 doubles. He’s second in RBI with 49 and tied for the seventh with a .295 batting average.
The New York Mets drafted Smith with the 11th pick in the 2013 draft out of Serra High School in Los Angeles. Smith is in his first year with St. Lucie.
Congrats to Mr. Smith. Off to a.300 start to July, win July too.
ReplyDeleteMaybe a late cup of coffee in Bingo this year? Bingo to Vegas next year and I think he might be in the conversation for 2017.
ReplyDeleteWith that said, I don't want to extend Lucas Duda anymore.
One thing is for sure. NOBODY is blocking Dom in Bingo or Vegas right now. So when he's ready, there's NO issue moving him up.
ReplyDeleteBut Mets can't sit back and keep waiting on all their prospects to pan out. They need to be in 'win now mode' every year.
This site knows my positive thoughts on Dom Smith. But it doesn't mean I want Mets to simply pray that Duda becomes consistent, or sign 35+ YR old fillers every year until he might be ready.
I had serious doubts about Dominic Smith, but he's really impressed me this season -- and the power continues to develop.
ReplyDeleteHe's like what a 1B used to be before the Steroid Era inflated all the numbers.
James Preller
Agreed......more of a Keith Hernandez type (solid BA, decent power exhibited by both HR and 2B's, above average defense).
ReplyDeleteFrom what I've seen of him while watching games in st lucie, the ball explodes off his bat.
ReplyDeleteHe also has no problem hitting ball opposite field, be it on ground or in the air.
Hopefully that means he is not concerned by anyone around him in media etc who complain about wanting more homers. He connects and puts ball in play.
You all probably know this but he just turned 20 in June, so his last 2 explosive months with 29 extra base hits in that span give one the idea that he can well be a superior hitter in the bigs in a year or two.
ReplyDeleteDon't sign Lucas long term!!
