Monday night back at the friendly confines of Citi Field, the
Mets scored 3 times in the bottom of the 7th inning to come from
behind and beat the Rockies 4-2. The
Mets behind Jon Niese took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd when
Travis d’Arnaud connected for a solo homer, his 5th on the year to
make it 1-0 Mets. In the top of the 4th
the sizzling hot Carlos Gonzalez hit a line homer into the Party porch in left
to make it 2-1 Colorado. That’s how it
stayed until the bottom of the 7th inning. Justin Miller relieved rookie starter Jon
Gray who had only allowed 1 run on the 1 hit through 6 innings. d’Arnaud singled and went to 2nd
on a wild pitch. Michael Conforto walked.
With 2 out Ruben Tejada walked to load the bases. Miller yielded to Boone Logan who hit Curtis
Granderson with a pitch to bring home d’Arnaud and tie the game at 2. Daniel Murphy then followed with a two run
single to put the Mets ahead for good. Niese pitched outstanding once again
going 7 innings allowing 6 hits, the 2 runs (earned) and striking out 5. He
gets the win to improve to 7-9. Tyler
Clippard pitched a scoreless 8th and Jeurys Familia retired the side
1-2-3 in the 9th for this 31st save on the year. Justin Miller took the loss falling to 1-1.
With the win the Mets snap their mini 2 game losing streak. They improve to 60-52 on the year and are in
impressive 39-18 at Citi Field. The Mets
only managed 4 hits on the night but made them count. d’Arnaud led the way
going 2 for 4 with the homer. For the Moment, the Mets are a full 2 games in
front of the Washington Nationals for 1st place in the NL east. The
Nats take on the Dodgers on the west coast. Tuesday its game 2 of this 4 game set. Matt Harvey (10-7 2.76) goes for the Mets,
Chris Rusin (3-4 4.66) goes for Colorado.
A classic Mets rally: 3 walks, 2 hits, and a HBP.
ReplyDeleteConforto took a close 2-2 pitch that a lesser man might have whiffed on. At the same time, I think he's taking far too many pitches. Need Travis to get into his ear; Michael needs to reject the organizational programming.
Very glad to see d'Arnaud get untracked. I wasn't worried, but it was time. The guy is a hitter.
A nice win.
