Thursday afternoon at Citi Field, Kelly Johnson had solo

stole second advanced to third tagging on a foul out and then scored on a fielder’s

Pirates come to town for a 3 games series. Bartolo Colon (10-11 4.76) goes for the Mets;

The Magic is back !
ReplyDeleteI opined here a few days ago that Recker was brought up to be the personal catcher for Bartolo in a semi-desperate attempt to help him right the ship. The fact that d'Arnaud started again today, day game after a night game, seems to support that theory. Even though under any normal circumstances Travis would have gotten the day off today, TC did not want to start Recker two games in a row.
ReplyDeleteI'd put $50 on Recker behind the plate tomorrow in the first game against the Bucs. That's why he's here.
James Preller
James,
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'd parlay that with Recker going 0-4 tomorrow. That way we can really cash in!
Just for the record: Colon's last start with Recker catching was perhaps his worst this year: 10 hits and 6 ER in 2.1 innings, prior to which as I think you know there was a lot of talk about Recker being his personal catcher.
So I wonder how much of that was just happenstance? We'll see. This is money I'd happily fork over.
I'll take a 9 run win any time. I'd have brought Recker in for the last inning or 2 to give d'Arnaud a breather. Even without a 3rd catcher.
ReplyDeleteI believe they sent Plaw out to get him reset offensively----he is likely to be the 2nd catcher if they go to the playoffs.
