Sunday in Colorado, Logon Verrett was dominant in his spot
start and the Met offense scored 5 times in the first 3 innings, the Mets sweep
the Rockies for the 2nd straight series with a 5-1 win. After two straight slugfests the Mets and the
Rockies played a more typical big league game.
The Mets jumped on a wild David Hale to lead 5-0 after 3. In the first
Daniel Murphy drove in Curtis Granderson with an RBI double. In the 2nd wild pitches by Hale
brought home Wilmer Flores and Michael Conforto for a 3-0 lead. In the third Flores ripped an opposite field
RBI single to make it 4-0. Anthony Recker doubled down the left field line
scoring Flores to make it 5-0 Mets.
Verrett was terrific easily showcasing the pitching performance of the weekend.
His only mistake was yielding a solo
homer to Carlos Gonzales, his 30th on the year in the 4th
inning. Verrett went 8 strong allowing just 4 hits the 1 run (earned) walking 1
and striking out 8 notching his 1st major league win. He’s now 1-1
on the year. Hansel Robles pitched the 9th
to lock down the win. Hale tossed 4 wild pitches yet struck out 9 Mets taking
the loss. He falls to 3-5. The Mets
managed 8 hits on the day. Conforto led the way going 3 for 4. Murphy also added 2 hits in the win. With the win the Mets improve to 11 games
over .500 and now stand at 67-56 on the year. Their road record swells to 25-35.
With a Nat win, the Mets maintain their 5 games lead in the NL East. Monday
night the Mets travel to Philadelphia to face the new look Phillies. David
Wright also makes his return for the Mets as well. On the mound for the Mets is
Jacob deGrom (12-6 1.98). Adam Morgan (4-4 3.98) goes for Philly.
