Tuesday night in Philly, Michael Cuddyer pinch hit 2 run single in the top of the 6th gave the Mets the lead for good. The Mets win their 5th straight with a 6-5 win over the Phillies. The Mets got off to a quick 3-0 lead for Mets starter Noah Syndergaard. Yoenis Cespedes connected for 2 run homer, his 2nd in two nights and 7th as a Met for a 2-0 lead. In the 2nd Travis d’Arnaud singled off Philly starter Jerome Williams and Syndergaard hit a double down the right field line scoring d’Arnaud to make it 3-0. Syndergaard had one bad inning. That was in the 3rd when he yielded a pair of 2 run homers. The first to Freddy Galvais, his 6th, to make it 3-2 Mets and then a 2 run bomb to Ryan Howard, his 21st to give Philly a 4-3 lead. In the 6th the Mets rallied for the lead. Daniel Murphy walked. Kelly Johnson singled making it 1st and 3rd. Jeanmar Gomez then came on. With 2 out, Michael Conforto walked to load the bases. d’Arnaud managed a walk to tie the game at 4. That brought up Cuddyer and his 2 run single made it 6-4. Mike O’Flaherty relieved Syndergaard in the 6th and left the game with runners on 1st and 3rd and one out. Hansel Robles came in for his 3rd straight outing. He retired the side in the 6th only allowing the Phils to score a run on a fielder’s choice to make it 6-5. In the 7th Robles retired the side in order, but the benches cleared when Robles quick-pitched Darin Ruf. It was ultimately a bunch of staring, but Phillies bench coach Larry Bowa was ejected. Tyler Clippard retired 2 in the 8th. Jeurys Familia came on with 2 on and retired the 8th and pitched the 9th for this 34th save. Syndergaard went 5 innings allowing 4 hits 4 runs (2 earned) while walking 2 and striking out 9. He breaks through and notches his first road win. He’s now 8-6 overall. Jerome Williams takes the loss falling to 4-10. With the win the Mets have now won 5 straight on the road and overall. They are now 13 games over .500 at 69-56. Their road record is now 26-35. The Nats won in Washington, so the Mets lead will stand at 5 ½ games in the NL East. Wednesday night it’s game 3 of the set. Bartolo Colon (10-11 4.90) goes for the Mets, Jared Eickhoff (1-0 0.00) goes for Philadelphia.
