August 3rd 2015 - Mets 12, Marlins 1


Monday night in Miami, the Met offense EXPLODED for 12 runs on 15 hits, while on the mound Bartolo Colon found his grove, the Mets roughed up the Marlins 12-1.  Tim Koehler started for Miami. After a scoreless first inning, Michael Conforto greeted him with a 435ft three run homer to center, his first major league home run to make it 3-0 Mets.  The Mets scored 4 more in the 5th on a 2 run double by Yoenis Cespedes an RBI double by Wilmer Flores and a fielder’s choice by Kelly Johnson, knocking Koehler out of the box.  The Mets went on to score 3 more in the 6th and 2 more in the 7th.  Cespedes had his breakout game as a Met going 3 for 5 with 3 doubles, 2 runs scored and 4 RBI.  Curtis Granderson went 3 for 5 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI. Conforto went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI. Travis d’Arnaud went 2 for 5.  Colon even got in on the act going 1 for 4.  Christian Yelich was the hitting star for Miami going 3 for 4 with an RBI. He drove in the Marlins only run in the bottom of the 8th. Colon went 8 innings allowing 7 hits 1 run (earned) and striking out 5. He finally snaps his 6 game losing streak and improves to 10-10. Sean Gilmartin pitched the 9th to finish it off. With the win the Mets have now won 5 straight. They are 56-50 overall and 18-32 on the road. Best of all the Nationals lost on Monday so the Mets find themselves all alone in first place in the NL east with a 1 game lead. Tuesday night it’s game two of the set. Jonathon Niese (5-9 3.63) goes for the Mets; Brad Hand (1-2 5.12) goes for the Fish.
