DOWN UNDER: Mets Minor League Results - 8-17-15
STAR OF THE DAY: Savannah, with a 14 game win streak, Danny Muno heroics, Tim Stauffer, Eudor Garcia
HONORABLE MENTION: Kevin Kaczmarski and Christian Montgomery
SCORES:
Las Vegas 5 - Iowa 4, 12 innings
Binghamton - DAY OFF
Savannah 6 - Augusta 1
Brooklyn - DAY OFF
Kingsport 6 - Princeton 2
GCL Mets 0 - Marlins 4
Now Here's the Scoop:
Las Vegas trailed Iowa by 1.5 games and sent Tom Stauffer out to try to reduce that gap. Tim was brilliant, with Just 3 hits allowed and 11 Ks, lowering his ERA to 2.15. Vegas tied it in the bottom of the 8th, and called on Vic Black.
Black retired no one, allowed 2 runs. Forget the call up?
After that, it was the Muno Show. Danny doubled in two runs with 2 puts in the 9th to tie it. He hit a walk off homer in the 12th to win it, a much needed win for the 51s. Ceciliani (3-5, .345).
Binghamton - DAY OFF
St Lucie trailed their opponent coming in by 2 games and started MARCOS MOLINA. Well, Marcos struggled, giving up 5 runs in his 4 innings of work, but had some bad luck. Good news, as he threw 79 pitches, a sign of health.
Only 3 Lucie hits. A loss.
Savannah tried for 14 straight with Corey Oswalt. 14 it is, with a 6-1 thumping, as Wuilmer Becerra's 2 hits (.299) and Eudor Garcia's 4 hits (.297) provided strong offense in support of a 5 inning, 1 run Oswalt start (moves to 10-4). Garcia is hitting .442 in his last 10 games, .365 over his last 30 days.
Struggling Christian Montgomery was great tonight - 3 perfect innings with 7 Ks. His ERA is still over 10 with the Gnats, but one game like this can change things. Al Baldonado closed it out; in the lefty's last 10 games, 13.2 scoreless innings, 20 Ks, 1.55 ERA for the season.
Brooklyn DAY OFF
Kingsport sent the hot Nabil Crismatt out to pitch vs. a Princeton team the K Mets trailed by 1.5 games going in.
Crismatt threw 7 innings of 2 run ball. With Kingsport's offense, that is usually enough, and it was again tonight. Kevin Kaczmarski had 3 hits (.348) with a homer, and Milton Ramos had 2 doubles (.284).
Catcher Darryl Knight hit his 7th homer in 85 at bats. Hitting just .129, though, as he has only 4 other hits.
Ivan Wilson reducing his K rate, with Just 13 in 40 plate appearances in his last 10 games - hitting .240.
GCL Mets faced a team with an identical 25-23 record, and Jose Medina gave up 4 runs (2 earned) in 5.1 innings. Sixto Torres threw a fine 2.1 IP, with 3 Ks. Just two G Met hits. A loss.
GOAT: St Lucie and GCL Met bats faltered.
Stauffer is a local kid, a #4 overall from 2003 I believe, so I've followed his injury-riddled career more closely than most. I have to wonder if perhaps he can give the Mets a few key innings out of the pen.

Stauffer has been great in tough Las Vegas. I don't doubt he can be useful in Sept.
