KINGSPORT KUDOS

KINGSPORT KUDOS, BY TOM BRENNAN

Now that the season has ended and the Kingsport Mets have moved on into the playoffs, and stood at 1 game apiece with the deciding game taking place last night to determine who went to the championship round (darn...they lost), it is time to hand out

The regular season Kingsport Kudos Awards:

Batting Champ: Kevin Kaczmarski, .355

2nd by a mere point: Pat Mazelka .354

Remarkably, those 2 were about 30 points higher than the league's 3rd highest hitter.

And...Luis Carpio, SS who just turned 18 in July, had the league's highest average for shortstops (.304), and was 11th overall.

On Base %: Mazelka .451 - 1st; Kaczmarski .415 - 6th.

Runs: Mazelka 47 - 3rd; Kaczmarski 44 - 6th

HRs: Dash Winningham tied for the league lead with 12.

RBIs: Winningham was 1st with 51, Mazelka 2nd with 48. Talk about a 1-2 punch. Kaczmarski tied for 11th, not bad for a guy leading off most of the time.

Slugging %: Mazelka .540 - 3rd; Kaczmarski .512 - 6th.

Steals: Kaczmarski was 2nd with 20 (caught 9 times - can't blame a guy for trying).

Hey, let's not forget the pitchers:

Tom McIlraith and Nabil Crismatt both finished the regular season 6-1, the 2nd highest win totals in the league.

McIlraith was 2nd in ERA with 1.71, and Crismatt 2nd in Ks with 65.

And Audry German finished 6-0, with just 22 Ks in 51 innings.
Overall: Pretty remarkable and deserving of applause...and...

KUDOS!
