Monday night in Flushing, David Wright’s 2 out RBI ground
rule double brought home the go ahead run. The Mets come behind once again to
beat the Marlins 4-3. The Mets took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third off
Miami’s young lefty Justin Nicolino, when Yoenis Cespedes clubbed another
moonshot. This one was in the 2nd deck in left field his 17th
homer as a Met and 35th on the year. It was his 17th
homer in 31 games. The Marlins tied the
game in the top of the 5th against Logan Verrett. Derek Dietrich and J.T. Realmuto singled.
Ichiro walked to load the bases.
Dietrich scored tying run on a ground out by Miguel Rojas. Verrett left after 5 strong innings. Sean
Gilmartin came on in the 6th and his rust showed right away as he allowed 2 runs on 3 hits as
RBI singles by Dietrich and Realmuto gave the Marlins a 3-1 lead. The Mets, as they have of late answered back
quickly. In the bottom of the inning
Juan Uribe doubled down the left field line, and Travis d’Arnaud hit a long
home run into the right centerfield bleachers tying the game at 3, for d’Arnaud
his 12th homer on the year. In the bottom of the 7th Wright
came up with 1st and 2nd and 2 out and hit a ground rule
double over the head of Christian Yelich in center scoring pinch runner Eric
Young Jr. for a 4-3 lead. Verrett went 5 allowing 3 hits 1 run (earned) walking
1 and striking out 3. He pitched well again in the spot start but takes the no
decision. Hansel Robles pitched the 7th, Addison Reed pitched the 8th
and Jeurys Familia pitched the 9th for this 41st save on
the year which ties him with Armando Benitez for the 2nd place on the
Mets all times season saves list. Robles
got the win he improves to 4-2. The Mets have now won 8 in a row. They are
83-61 on they are now 22 games over .500 on the season and 46-24 at home. The
Phils and the Nats are tied in Philadelphia. Worst case scenario the Mets will
maintain their 9 ½ game lead. A Philly win will give the Mets a 10 ½ game lead in the NL East. Tuesday night
it’s game two of the series Jacob deGrom (13-7 2.40) goes for the Mets, Tim
Koehler (9-13 3.99) goes for Miami.

ReplyDeleteMack, you were a regular Leslie West, no doubt.
ReplyDeleteI think I am going to nickname Travis D'Arnaud "L'il Yoenis" - he is really turning into something special.
Um, Tom, I don't think that nickname is going to stick. But point taken.
ReplyDeleteBTW, is Travis born again? Or very religious? I got that vibe in the interview last night, that he's a straight-laced dude.
