October 15th 2015 -- NLDS Game 5 -- Mets 3, Dodgers 2
Thursday night in Los Angeles, Daniel Murphy hit a solo home run off Zach Greinke in the top of the 6th inning to snap a 2-all tie. The Mets take NLDS 3 games to 2 beating the Dodgers 3-2 thereby advancing to the NLCS vs. the Cubs. The Mets jumped off to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Curtis Granderson reached on an infield single that had to be confirmed with a successful managerial challenge. David Wright struck out and Daniel Murphy then doubled to left center scoring Granderson for a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the 2nd deGrom clearly didn’t have his good stuff, after retiring Howie Kendrick on a line out, he yielded 4 consecutive hits by Corey Seager, Adrian Gonzalez, Justin Turner and Andre Either, with Turner and Either each driving in runs to make it 2-1. In the top of the fourth, Murphy got his 2nd hit of the game. Yoenis Cespedes struck out. Lucas Duda walked an in a huge heads up play, while the Dodger infield was shifted to the right side for Duda, Murphy went first to third on the walk and then scored on a sac-fly by Travis d’Arnaud. In the 6th, more Murphy as he hit a one out line homer to right, his 3 homer of the series and his 2nd of Greinke and it was 3-2 Mets. deGrom went 6 innings allowing 6 hits the 2 runs (earned) while walking 3 and striking out 7. deGrom who never had his overpowering stuff was masterful in working out of trouble the whole time he was in. His only 1-2-3 inning was his last, the 6th. The Mets knocked Greinke out in the 7th, he went 6 2/3 allowing 6 hits, 3 runs (earned) walking 1 and striking out 9. Noah Syndergaard came in in the 7th for his first relief appearance of his career. He retired the side in order and struck out 2. Jeurys Familia pitched the 8th and 9th for a 6 out save. The first post season 6 out save since Jesse Orosco in 1986. His 2nd save of the series. Murphy led the way going 3 for 4 with the homer and 2 RBI. He had the 3 homers and 5 RBI in the series. DeGrom gets the win; he won 2 games in the set as well. Greinke takes the loss. The Mets advance to the NLCS to face the Cubs. Game 1 is Saturday night at Citi Field. Jon Lester (0-1 3.68) goes for the Cubs, the Met starter is TBD, but looks to be either Matt Harvey or Steven Matz.

I'm in Mets Heaven.
ReplyDeleteI bow to Daniel Murphy. What a game, what a series. What an unexpected play. All those gaffes, all those baserunning outs, they were all leading up to this. Amazin', just amazin'.
Hell yeah! What poise that young team just showed.......not sure what happens from here with pitch/inning counts and all. But, it has already been a very good year and you have to think the best is yet to come in the next few seasons.
ReplyDeleteSide note......you have to bring Murphy back right? Super utility guy and a huge lefty stick off the bench at worst.
Congrats guys!
A game for the ages from a team of destiny. Win one for the Kiner!
