Sunday afternoon in Flushing, Curtis Granderson hit a solo homer in the bottom of the 8th inning. The Mets beat the Nationals 1-0. For the Mets they finish their regular season on a high note in snapping their 5 game slide. It was a “tune-up” start for Jacob deGrom who went 4 innings and just 2 walked 2 and struck out 7. One day after being no-hit by Max Scherzer the Mets had a no hitter going until the 7th inning when Clint Robinson hit a 2 out single against Jonathon Niese. The Mets pitching staff won this on committee. deGrom, Bartolo Colon, Logan Verrett, Niese, Addison Reed, Tyler Clippard and Jeurys Familia combined on the 2 hitter. Familia retired the side in the 9th earning his 43rd save matching Armando Benitez for the all-time Met franchise mark. Granderson’s 26th homer came in the 8th snapping a scoreless tie making a loser out of Blake Treinen who falls to 2-5. Clippard gets the win improving to 4-1 as a Met. Granderson went 3 for 5 with a single, double and the homer. With the win the Mets finish the regular season at 90-72 over-all and 49-31 at home, 41-40 on the road. The regular season has come to its conclusion. The Mets are off till Friday when they start the NLDS in Los Angeles. Game time is TBD, but it’s Jacob deGrom (14-8 2.54) for the Mets, Zach Grienke (19-3 1.66) for the Dodgers.
BRING ON THE DODGERS
ReplyDeleteDidn't Sandy get ripped for saying that we were a 90 win team, before the season started? Guess he knew something we didn't!
ReplyDeleteThat was before the 2014 season, dude, so you only off by a year. Most folks generally came in around 85 wins, give or take.
ReplyDeleteI personally had them at 87 and figured it would be short of a WC spot.
They got lucky with the Nationals' season-long collapse. But also, yes, credit to Alderson for making the moves to give this team a shot at the trading deadline.
The first half of the season, with great pitching and a horrendous offense, looked like another failure to compete. I'm so glad he finally woke up and gave this staff the support they deserved.

I couldn't agree with you more. Anyone going to the playoff games? If so we should meet up for a drink beforehand at Mcfaddens?
