Mets To Meet With Denard Span

Mets To Meet With Denard Span

The Mets are among the teams that will meet with outfielder Denard Span sometime in the new year, Ken Davidoff of the New York Post writes. The Mets want to determine if Span is healthy before signing him — he missed time with a series of injuries in 2015 before finally having season-ending hip surgery in September, and he wound up playing in just 61 games.
As Davidoff notes, adding Span would enable the Mets to move the light-hitting Juan Lagares into a fourth outfielder role. The Mets have also been connected to Gerardo Parra (who is, like Span, a left-handed hitter capable of playing center field) and could pursue other outfield options as well

  2. Obsession with injured players.

    Still not a strong 3 & 4.

#3 hitter Granderson - 14th in NL with 26 home runs

    #4 hitter - Duda - 10th in NL with 27 home runs

    2. Home runs to me.....is not enough to be a 3 or 4 hitter.
Consistency, reliability, and ability to drive in the runs that are needed are more important to me.

Sooo...Duda could be my #5 hitter. Not 3 or 4.

  4. I say no thank-you to any BorASS clients.
Just sign Cespedes, he fits better than anyone else!
Also is arguably the only Player who can hit in Citifield

  5. I believe that Span wants to prove his health and rebuild his value, to enable him to sign a bigger contract down the road. For that reason, I don't think he's interested in a platoon deal with the Mets.

The only way I see the NY club getting him is if they move Lagares. I would not be opposed to that -- I like Span -- but I would be surprised.

If the solution to the CF problem becomes Will Venable, I'll be unhappy, but unsurprised. Feels like they are cutting corners, but there's time left.

    We shall see.

  7. Span is going to sign with the Cubs. They will trade Soler and or Baez and get another starter and then sign Span to man Centerfield. They are a club that knows what to do at the end of a rebuild, not us.

  8. It's not as if the Mets don't KNOW what they should do to give themselves the best chance to get back to the WS, they're just not likely to commit the $$$ necessary to get there. Whereas the Cubs will.

    1. Unfortunately that is part of knowing what to do.
Have to spend either money or player talent.

  10. Ah remember the days when we added Beltran and Delgado to a young left side of Wright and Reyes now that was some added thunder to a strong lineup the only problem of course was the pitching. Now that we have the pitching and an avg. to good lineup YC would be the perfect power guy in the middle and we don't even lose a pick. So this is to Freddy and Saul...hey guys your not getting any younger and you can't take it with you so please: OPEN THE DAM CHECKBOOK already and while your at it Bastarto would be good bullpen addition too. Thanks guys and Happy Holidays.
