Binghamton 2 - New Hampshire 1

Jeff McNeil went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and two RBI, Robert Gsellman struck out seven batters and the Binghamton Mets took down the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 2-1, Friday night at NYSEG Stadium.
Gsellman got in the groove early as he retired the first four batters he faced, three via the strikeout. The fifth gave him trouble however as with one out in the top of the second inning, Melky Mesa drove a pitch off of the videoboard in right-center field and put the Fisher Cats on top 1-0.
Binghamton answered in the home half of the third with a longball of its own. McNeil turned on an offering from Jeremy Gabryszwski and planted it over the wall in right, evening the score at one.
Gsellman took control from that point and did not allow another base hit until the sixth. After retiring the first two batters he faced, Gsellman surrendered a single to Roemon Fields followed by a walk to Jon Berti, placing runners on first and second. He was then lifted in favor of Kelly Secrest, who got Dwight Smith Jr. to pop up and end the threat.
Gsellman finished with one run allowed on two hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in 5.2 innings pitched. He did not factor in the decision.
The game remained tied at one until the eighth when Kyle Johnson smoked a double down the left field line to lead off the frame. McNeil followed with a double of his own to the right-field gap, scoring Johnson and giving the B-Mets a 2-1 lead.
Akeel Morris set the Fisher Cats down in order in the ninth to pick up his first save. Logan Taylor (1-0) earned the win with one hit and one strikeout in one shutout inning. Colt Hynes (0-1) was tagged with the loss after allowing one run on three hits in one inning.
Binghamton improved to 1-0 with the Opening Day victory while New Hampshire fell to 0-1. The series continuesSaturday at NYSEG Stadium with a 1:05 PM first pitch. Tyler Pill will take the ball for the B-Mets while the Fisher Cats counter with John Anderson.
