St. Lucie 2 - Daytona 0

The St. Lucie Mets snapped a three-game losing streak by shutting out the Daytona Tortugas 2-0 on Sunday evening at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.

Corey Oswalt scattered three singles over six impressive innings to get the win and improve to 3-1. He walked one, struck out five and helped his cause by picking off two base runners.

Kevin McGowan tossed a perfect seventh and eighth. Corey Taylor recorded his fourth save when he induced a game-ending 6-4-3 double play.

The Mets scored their two runs in the third inning on a two-out single by Luis Guillorme that scored Jonathan Johnson and Champ Stuart. Johnson started the rally with a two-out infield single. Stuart reached first on an error by Tortugas short stop Blake Trahan.

Both teams only had three hits apiece.

Tortugas starter Seth Varner held the Mets to two hits in six innings. Both runs against him were unearned.

With the win the Mets picked up a game on first place Fort Myers. St. Lucie, Bradenton and Jupiter are tied for second and one game behind Fort Myers in the South Division.
