St. Lucie 2 - Daytona 1

The St. Lucie Mets scored a run in the seventh and another in the eighth to complete a 2-1 comeback over the Daytona Tortugas on Monday at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.

With the win the Mets earned a series split after they had dropped the first two games of the series. They also tied Jupiter and Fort Myers for first place in the FSL South.

The game was tied 1-1 in the eighth when John Mora drew a one-out walk. Tomas Nido made Nolan Becker pay when he ripped a RBI double to left field that put the Mets up 2-1.

Tim Peterson struck out back-to-back batters with two runners on to end the game. It the second save for Peterson.

Mets starter Ricky Knapp was stellar in his first start after being named FSL Pitcher of the Week. Knapp held the Tortugas to one unearned run over eight innings. For the second straight start he allowed just three hits. Knapp struck out four and improved to 5-2. His eight innings are a season-high for a Mets starter. He only needed 89 pitches.

The Tortugas lone run came in the third. Amed Rosario made a routine throw to first base that would have ended the inning, but Michael Katz lost the throw in the setting sun which let Jonathan Reynoso score from second base.

The Mets had numerous scoring opportunities through the first six innings, but they didn’t plate their first run until the seventh. Jonathan Johnson tripled to right field and scored on Rosario’s two-out infield single.

Knapp worked around two errors in the bottom of the seventh that had runners at second and third with one out. He got a pop out and a fly out to end the threat.

The Mets ended up with 11 hits in the game but were just 2 for 14 with runners in scoring position and they tied a season-high by stranding 13.

Wuilmer Becerra went 3 for 5 with a pair of doubles to up his league-leading average to .369.
