The Top 134 Players in the 2016 MLB Draft

This isn't rocket science. I am never right and these aren't my picks. It simply is the average of the last 96 mock drafts published online this mock season.

   That being said...

   1.     LHP           A,J. Puk                        Florida

   2.     OF              Kyle Lewis                    Mercer

   3.     LHP           Jason Groome              Barnegat HS (NJ)

   19.  RHP          Jordan Sheffield          Vanderbilt
Sheffield is a very skilled righty and the bother of Justus Sheffield, who was taken by the Indians in the first-round of the 2014 draft.  Sheffield has two plus pitches (fastball and slider) and the potential to develop a third (changeup). He does tend to overthrow and needs to work on repeating his delivery. He also has a troubling injury history and that could push his stock down some. Overall, Sheffield has plenty of potential and could be a future star at the big league level if he stays healthy.

   20.  RHP          Cal Quatrill                 Stanford

   21.  3B-1B       Will Craig                    Wake Forest

   30.  LHP          Eric Lauer                    Kent State

31.  RHRP       Zach Burdi                   Louisville
The brother in this story is Nick Burdi, who saved 34 games for Louisville between 2012-2014.  While on campus, the elder Burdi posted a 1.80 ERA while striking out 13.36 per 9 innings. Nick was a second round selection of the Minnesota Twins in 2014 and has struck out 13 batters per 9 innings as a professional, relying almost elusively on a fastball/slider mix.  He does have a changeup, but when you bump 100 with your fastball and 90 with your slider, there isn’t much need for it in short spurts. Entering the 2016 campaign, Burdi was ranked as the #37th best college prospect perBaseball America, while coming in at #29 on the D1Baseball list.
32.  RHP          Cody Sedlock               Illinois

64.  RHP          Bailey Clark                  Duke
The Blue Devils’ top pro prospect for the 2016 draft is righthander Bailey Clark. A native of Asheville, N.C., Clark was the No. 257 player in the 2013 BA 500, and has steadily grown into the velocity that his frame and arm speed indicated. Clark threw one inning on Thursday, facing live hitters for the first time since he pitched for Team USA in the summer.Clark faced four batters, walking one, striking out two, and getting one batter to line out. His fastball peaked at 96 mph, and rested comfortably at 92-95. His best secondary offering was his changeup, an upper 80s pitch with late diving action. Clark was able to locate his changeup down in the zone, or bury it through the bottom of the zone as a chase pitch. He also showed a slider, which showed some teeth as it broke down and to his arm side.

124.                    OF              Brandon Marsh           Buford HS (GA)
My current lean is Brandon Marsh, the highly athletic plus to plus-plus runner out of Georgia. We know he’s got four average or better tools (you can add a plus arm, average or better raw power, and easy center field range to his hot wheels), but, like many prospects of his ilk, we don’t know how his bat will play against professional pitching. Between the swing, the bat speed, and his approach to date, there are lots of encouraging signs, so gambling you at least get an average-ish hit tool out of him seems more than fair. Combined with his other tools, that player is a potential monster. Everything said about Marsh can also be said about Taylor Trammel

   134.                    C                Will Smith                    Louisville

  1. Hey, you spelled my high school name wrong its Shenendehowa :)

I think yesterdays loss was one of the least painful losses. Seeing Harvey dominate for a 2nd straight start took the edge away. If they Mets can find a way to improve the offense they could easily go on a long winning streak. Joel Sherman pointed out that they have actually scored 3 fewer runs than last year up to this point. Did you think that was possible?

Do the Mets continue to decimate the farm system to upgrade offense? Do we have any untouchable guys in the minors? Is this Conlon guy trending that way? Would they give up Rosario?
