SETH LUGO MAGIC, METS STYLE

SETH LUGO MAGIC, METS STYLE by Tom Brennan

Seth Lugo could not pitch in Vegas.  Thin air screws with breaking pitches.  The air is thick in Queens with Wild Card Fever.  All the pitches work in Queens for the 34th rounder.

The season is starting to work, too.  It takes a Wild end to win a Wild Card.  When the comatose Bruce and Curtis are the hitting stars, wild things are in the air. Let's go wild.

Thank you, SETH, and let's go Mets.

  1. Maybe the Mets decision makers will realize the value of some.pitchers that are not top of the heap hard throwers

  3. Another reason to not judge a book by it's cover. If this keeps up it'll make for a very interesting post season (fingers crossed) off season and spring training next year. I saw Cecchini will be called up...WHAT!!! Did I get that right.

    1. Yep, but with Matt Reynolds going deep today, the world is officially upside down.

  7. Bob, the Post picked on Wilmer's baserunning after his hit-filled night. Gotta pick on something. I'd rather pick on him hitting .300, more or less, since Memorial Day. Go, Wilmer.

Gary, it is getting Amazing in Queens.

  8. Which is Worse?...a slow and bad base runner or a Fast and Bad base runner. Today, I dislike Slow and Dumb.

On a day when Wilmer added to every traditional Stat Category, he also raised his "Sabers", including WAR. You have to actually watch him play to realize what a limited baseball player he is. He is raising trade value...he has a place in MLB...he is NOT an everyday player, but he's make a nice DH, Floater.

  9. eraff, I had the same discussion with my cousin - he'd be a good DH. Fielding, too. When I was at the game Thurs nite, on a potential DP with either Gordon or Ichiro running, where you as a teammate had to know you wanted to hold down Jake's pitch count, he was slow to field the grounder at 2nd and slow in his flip to Reyes. They did not turn the DP and it added very unwanted pitches from Jake. I think there was another one the next inning, which he flipped faster but failed to turn DP. More pitching strain. An elite 2B turns them both.

Speaking of Jake, two Septembers ago, he was a strikeout machine. He was a shadow of that pitcher the other night.

  10. How could Flores even have a chance of turning the double play if it would require an elite 2nd baseman and he is young and throughout his young career has been shuffled from position to position? Sometimes even in the same game.

    1. Bob, just not convinced on his range and quickness but Flores is passable in the field
