Tom Brennan - WHO'S BETTER?

Tom Brennan - WHO'S BETTER?

Just comparing a few of the Yanks' top prospects vs. ours.

Whose guys are better? Weigh in.  Met prospects in BOLD:

1) Gleyber Torres vs, Amed Rosario - Rosario is really, really good, while Gleyber tore up the AFL,

2) Greg Bird vs. Dominic Smith - Dom is progressing well, Bird has the power edge.

3) Clint Frazier vs. Brandon Nimmo - Clint have a higher ceiling?

4) Jorge Mateo vs. Gavin Cecchini - no one is faster than Jorge.

We could continue, but do the Yanks have better prospects, and given they already have a rising star in Gary Sanchez, do the Yankees have the talent edge on the Mets?

    1. If we threw in Justin Dunn and Montero, could we trade for all 4 Yanks? Think not

  2. And... realize...

The Yankees did not throw away 5 or 6 years in order to acquire those players and rebuild their farm system

  4. Well, you have a trade-averse GM who will not look outside the USA for major league talent and who will not give young players a chance when proven mediocrities exist.

  5. I think I may expand this comparison in another article in the coming days.

  6. Ill take rosario over Torres, but id be happy with either also they are basicaly the same age and rosario is ahead. As for bird vs dom, dom is the safer bet to play for ten years and 5 years younger, but chicks dig the long ball. Mateo has already been suspended once for conduct but cecchini is no sure thing. A ginger vs a hick? id take frazier too. tho frazier is way more likely be in the stip club before a game.

  7. I have a question for both Mack and Thomas.
Why is it that players like Lagares and Conforto have a great year where they got all the praises for being part of the future core followed by a bad year and somehow only the bad year is relevant?

Lagares has a great year, wins the GG and now is a 4th outfielder. Conforto has a great year, pitchers adjust to him which earned him a demotion yet he is now trade bait?

I just don't get it. If teams didn't give their youngsters coming up a chance to succeed, half of them would be back at AAA or out of baseball.

Not all players catch fire on their first or second year. Look a Profar who was the #1 prospect. Joey Gallo, Byron Buxton, Joc Peterson, etc. Where would the Daniel Murphy and Justin Turner be without opportunities?

Why are the Mets and so many writers so shortsighted?

  8. I would take the Met prospects if it was ours vs theirs as a whole. Looks like they might have overall more power but they strike out about 25% of their at bats, walk less and have lower batting averages. Three of our prospects strikeout around 10% or less (Nimmo 18%), walk more and have all hit for average already. Defense is hard to say until they play in major league ball parks. It does look like we have 3 solid defenders in Rosario, Smith and Nimmo. Cecchini has work to do but he was supposed to have a good glove when he was drafted so there is hope.
