I am amazed that Paul Sewald did not get selected, that not one team thought he would be of value to their major league team.
Glad Phil Evans was not picked - a good gamble that just because he won AA batting title with barely enough at bats, sticking him on a major league roster for all of 2017 was a non-starter.
Much ado about nothing.......Evans is AAAA filler and Sewald "might" become a middle relief pitcher in time.
I didn't get some folks panicking about losing them.
The "negative brigade" can move onto something else now, I guess. Like how Sandy didn't get anything done at the Winter Meetings (even though Spring Training is still two months away).
Yankees losing 4 guys in the major league Rule 5 is pretty incredible. Have to keep in mind that last year's pennant drive trades of pitchers kept us from losing several to the Rule 5 draft this year and last. We lost only Bowman last year, and to his credit, he did fine for Cards.
So...
ReplyDeleteThis looks like your 25-man on opening day:
1B - Lucas Duda
2B - Neil Walker
SS - Astrubel Cabrera
3B - David Wright
UIF - Wilmer Flores, T.J. Rivera
OF - Michael Conforto, Yoenes Cespedes, Juan Lagares, Curtis Granderson, Jay Bruce
C - Travis d'Arnaud, Rene Rivera
SP - Noah Syndergaard, Jacob deGrom, Steven Matz, Matt Harvey, Robert Gsselman
RP - Zack Wheeler, Josh Edgin, Addison Reed, Josh Smoker, Hansel Robles, Erik Goeddel, Seth Lugo
How can this be your Opening day lineup without including Reyes...
ReplyDeleteNo way he is not on the roster at 500K and could play 5 Positions...
Reyes in, TJ out until someone gets hurt.

Sooo.
ReplyDeleteMets threw away how many years to rebuild.....while the Yankees showed restraint for 2 years to rebuild.
Yankees system strong enough now to lose 4 players in the major league phase of the Rule 5 Draft. Mets none.
The Yankees go on to lose 3 more in the AAA phase. The Mets 2.
They lost 2 minor leagues in the Triple A section. Left handed pitchers Adrian Almeida and Paul Paez
ReplyDeleteThey were filler only
