BREAKING NEWS - OF - Ty Kelly
The New York Mets released outfielder Ty Kelly.
The 27-year old Kelly hit .241 in 58 at-bats for the Mets last season. He also hit .328 in 271 at-bats for AAA-Las Vegas.
Another confusing pre-season decision. First, the Mets lower their SP AAA depth by selling Gabe Ynoa to Baltimore, now them release Kelly and lower their AAA depth in the outfield.
As of today, I have the following outfielders -
Queens (5) - Cespedes, Lagares, Bruce, Granderson, Conforto
AAA-Las Vegas (4) - Nimmo, Kyle Johnson, Travis Taijeron, Jayce Boyd
AA-Binghamton - (6) Wuilmer Beccera, Victor Cruzado, Stefan Sabol, Patrick Biondi, Champ Stuart, John Mora
And then... there is Tim Tebow.
Definitely a Tim Tebow move :)
ReplyDeleteMaybe Kelly wanted to try somewhere else

The Mts had 7 OF'ers on their 40-man. Even teams with a DH don't have that. Now a more reasonable 6.
ReplyDeleteMy guess is that baring a trade, Conforto starts out in AAA (maybe playing a little 1B too). My choice for a bump up to LV is Victor Cruzado, while Kacz gets a shot in Bingo.
I forgot Jayce Boyd
ReplyDeleteYnoa is a Loss...Ty Kelly is an absolute non-issue---they did something nice for him by giving him a chance to find a spot
ReplyDelete1) Kelly has NOT been released, at least not yet. He was DFA'd, and if no one claims him he can still resign with us and go to AAA outright.
ReplyDelete2) Ynoa was "traded for cash" (used to be called "sold") AFTER the Kelly move, not before it.
I don't understand it at all. He's only 23 and had an excellent AAA season in hitters' heaven. Surely others on tje 40, such as Reynolds, who are more expendable.
One would think that the Mecs could have gotten a player back instead of cash. And yes, Reynolds would have been a better choice to be released if they needed a spot on the 40 man roster.
ReplyDeleteKind of surprised on the love shown so far to Montero. I thought he would be traded by now.

Just an FYI.....Ty Kelly has not been released....he was only Designated for Assignment.
ReplyDeleteHe will likely pass through waivers and report to AAA Las Vegas
