It looks awkward out in Right and Center with three lefty bats (and no real CF) for two slots. And am I crazy to think we'd be better off with MC and Lagares (if/when healthy) starting than Grandy/Bruce? The nice thing is that I have faith in Terry to work this out just perfectly so that none of the three of them get into any kind of a groove at all.
Yup, makes perfect sense. Kelly sucked all spring and gets rewarded for it. I know, I know...in a pinch he's an outfielder and a better hitter like Gavin Cecchini is not. Hopefully it's just a temporary thing for the 15 days until Juan Lagares and/or Brandon Nimmo can replace him. Of course, we can also start a pool about who's the first reliever to depart when Familia returns? My bet is they trade Edgin.
Correct, Reese, Edgin's time here is 15 games max.
Gosh, I'd feel awful if Montero does not make the team. One of his 10 games was a fairly weak outing, but in the other 9 games, 18.2 IP, 13 H, 4 BB, 20K, 2 R.
Poor Travis Taijeron - 2 OF's get DL'd and he still gets passed over.
I have to assume someone is going to release a right-handed fifth outfielder before Opening Day, who the Mets will snag and replace Kelly with. It just makes no sense to have him on the roster. Can't hit, can't steal a base, can't be a credible defensive replacement.
As for Nimmo and Lagares.....they are only being placed on the 10 Day DL (the 15 Day DL is no more.) The 10 Day DL removes them from the active roster but keeps them on the 40 man roster.
So no adjustments needed there just activate and switch Lagares for Kelly....send Nimmo to AAA.
Wait, are we going to carry both Kelly and TJ Rivera?
ReplyDeleteSounds like it.

ReplyDeleteI wish Jose had gotten some CF exposure in ST. Wilmer regular 3B.

ReplyDeleteKelly is not on the 40, so someone will have to be cut if he's added. And he'll have to be waived when Lag returns. Where does that leave Nimmo?
ReplyDelete@Bill Metsiac
ReplyDeleteTechnically not....The Familia suspension removes him from the 40 man roster temporarily for them to add Kelly.
However, 15 games down the road....they will need to make a 40 man roster move.

The problem there is that the team values Kelly at AAA. Bringing him up for 10 days and then having to waive him makes no sense to me.
ReplyDeleteYou (Chris) know our system better than most here. Isn't there someone already on the 40 who could fill in for 2 weeks or so?
The only guy would be Matt Reynolds, who is essentially the same player as Ty Kelly.....unfortunately....he was terrible this spring.
