2017 Draft 5 Pak – Pavin Smith, MacKenzie Gore, Mike Rivera, Brendan McKay, Logan Warmoth

Frankie Piliere‏ - @FPiliere -  Pavin Smith had a 4 hit game yesterday for Virginial and continues to become a very intriguing candidate for the #1 overall pick

WTGCTT - Pavin Smith is a powerful 1B prospect from Univ. of Virginia, 1 of just 7 college hitters in mlb.com's top 50 draft prospects.  He can both hit and hit for power with strong walk rates and relatively low K rates(note the reversed K/BB in 2016 college season).  Since he's pretty much limited to 1B, he's going to have to hit a ton, but he appears to be capable of doing just that.

Nathan Rode‏ @NathanRode - Big crowd at LHP MacKenzie Gore last night. GMs, SDs, assistants. Allowed first BB of year. 15 Ks in 6 IP. Touched 96. 93-95 late

Athlon - Gore, who signed to play at East Carolina, has an excellent advanced arsenal of pitches to go with enough (87-91 mph) velocity to be a potential early-round pick.

Kendall Rogers‏ - @KendallRogers  -  Florida C Mike Rivera will miss the next four weeks because of a broken hamate bone. JJ Schwarz/Mark Kolozsvary will split plate duties.
Frankie Piliere‏ - @FPiliereD1  -  Big blow for Florida - also worth watching as his draft stock had been trending upwards in recent weeks

Brendan McKay  Gocards    allowed just one hit in eight dominant innings on the mound and added pair of hits at the plate to lead the No. 2 Louisville baseball team to a 3-0 victory over Georgia Tech in Thursday night's series-opener at Russ Chandler Stadium. McKay finished with eight strikeouts while surrendering only a fourth inning single to go with two walks to move to 5-2 on the season and 26-9 in his collegiate career. The junior lefthander retired the final 13 batters he faced while reaching eight strikeouts in a game for the 24th time. McKay, who ranks second in career strikeouts at Louisville with 321, has a 1.19 ERA and 76 strikeouts in his 53.0 innings this season.

Gocards - Summer 2016: Had a stellar summer at the plate and on the mound for USA Collegiate National Team... Hit .326 overall with five RBI in 13 starts as a hitter while also registering a 2-1 record with a 1.35 ERA and 10 strikeouts in 13.1 innings on the mound.

D1 -   While we aren’t listing these players in order of who has helped their stock the most, you simply cannot start the conversation without Logan Warmoth. No name is on the tips of scouts’ tongues the way Warmoth’s is and he’s, quite frankly, the fastest rising commodity in the class right now. Warmoth has shown he is an extremely steady hand at shortstop and has the arm strength to finish the play from deep in the hole. Even for the scouts who question his ability at shortstop, most still see him as a potential 20-20 type of talent at the big league level. He’s shown plus speed and consistent above-average power this spring, so even if he cannot stick at shortstop, he is a potentially dynamic second baseman in waiting at the big league level. Warmoth already has seven home runs and 15 stolen bases on the year.

Goheels - Sophomore Season (2016) - Elite defensive shortstop had a breakout season at the plate as a sophomore • Started 53 games at shortstop and hit .337 with 14 doubles, two triples and four homers • Also drove in a team-best 53 runs and stole eight bases • Posted a .337/.402/.481 slash line • Had a big power surge late in the year, hitting all four of his home runs in the final 13 games, including a walk-off homer against Louisville on May 7 • Posted a scorching .466/.528/.724 slash line over the final 15 games on the season and drove in a team-high 22 runs during that span • Finished with 22 multi-hit games, including a career-high four hits against UNCW on April 26 and NC State on May 19 • Drove in multiple runs 15 times, including a career-best four at Duke on March 20 and at NCSU on May 20 • Made just 11 errors in 212 defensive chances and was part of 30 double plays • Hit .270 with four homers in the Cape Cod League for Brewster.
