The GreenJackets evened up the four-game series with a 7-0 victory over the Fireflies at Lake Olmstead Stadium. First baseman Dash Winningham singled and walked on Friday night, which stretched his league-best on-base streak to nine games.
Gene Cone also reached base twice, but Columbia (6-3) managed just four hits. Augusta (2-7) pushed three across the board in the fourth inning. Starter Gabriel Llanes (L, 0-1) surrendered back-to-back run-scoring singles to Brandon Van Horn and Will Albertson. Llanes then bounced back and retired the next three hitters. Anthony Marks’ groundout plated the inning’s third run.
The GreenJackets added three more in the sixth and one more in the eighth after Sandro Fabian doubled in Kevin Rivera.
Matt Solter (W, 1-0) picked up the win for the home team.
Saturday’s first pitch between Columbia and Augusta is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. Manager Jose Leger sends righty Merandy Gonzalez to the mound to face GreenJackets right-hander Melvin Adon (0-1, 16.50).
