SEA DOGS TAKE SERIES OPENER, REMAIN PERFECT: After winning their first two games of the 2017 season, the Rumble Ponies have dropped back-to-back contests, falling on Monday, 8-5, at Hadlock Field. Binghamton is in the midst of a season-opening six-game road trip. The New England swing was scheduled to be a seven-game road trip before inclement weather altered the schedule. The Rumble Ponies wait until Thursday evening before playing its first game at NYSEG Stadium.

BINGHAMTON  STARTER: Beginning his third season in Binghamton, right-handed pitcher Mickey Jannis gets the start in the middle game of this three-game set. A 44^th-round draft pick Tampa Bay in 2010, Jannis has started 25 games for Binghamton since the start of the 2015 season. Last season his 22 starts for Binghamton was matched only by right-hander Tyler Pill, who also started 22 games. The knuckleballer has tossed134.0 innings at the Double-A level.

PORTLAND STARTER: The Sea Dogs turn to righty Kevin McAvoy in search of a perfect (5-0) start to the Eastern League season. McAvoy enters his fourth professional season after spending all of last year in Portland. Over 22 starts, the 23-year old posted an 8-9 record with a 5.80 ERA in 116.1 innings pitched. A four-year starter at Bryant University, McAvoy was selected in the 4^th round of the 2014 draft by the Red Sox.

AGAINST THE SEA DOGS: Of his 22 starts for Binghamton last season, Mickey Jannis only faced the Sea Dogs once. On 7/22/16 at Hadlock Field, Portland touched up Jannis for five earned runs in 3.1 innings en route to a 9-3 win.

AGAINST BINGHAMTON: Sea Dogs starting pitcher Kevin McAvoy battled Binghamton twice last year, both at NYSEG Stadium. On 4/25/16, McAvoy lasted just 1.2 innings. Despite allowing just one earned run in the effort, the righty walked six batters in a 6-4 B-Mets victory. On 7/30/16, McAvoy was slapped with the loss in a five-inning outing where he, again, allowed just one earned run, but walked six batters. Binghamton won 2-1.

TO INFINITY AND BIONDI: Patrick Biondi belted the first-ever Rumble Ponies home run in Monday’s loss. The long ball, the sixth of his MiLB career, was his first since 8/15/15 (473 plate appearances). With three RBI, Biondi trails Matt Oberste (4) for the team lead. The fifth-year pro, known more for his speed, has accumulated 106 stolen bases in his four-plus professional seasons. A 9th-round pick out of the University of Michigan, Biondi holds the school record for thieves as well as the single-game Big Ten record.

HELLO AGAIN, HELLO: Relievers Luis Mateo and Kyle Regnault made their season debuts on Monday. Kelly Secrest is the only member of the Ponies Opening Day roster yet to appear this season.
