BINGHAMTON BATS AWAKE IN OPENER: The Rumble Ponies collected 13 hits in a 10-2 series-opening victory over the Altoona Curve. Kevin Taylor’s two-run homer highlighted a four-run fifth inning as the Rumble Ponies would win wire-to-wire. Casey Delgado tossed 6.1 innings to earn his second win in his last three starts. Tuesday’s game was the first of six contests between Binghamton and Altoona in the 2017 regular season.
BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Mickey Jannis makes his seventh start of the 2017 campaign. After posting a 3-0 mark with a 1.93 ERA in his first four starts, the knuckleballer has compiled a 7.84 ERA in his last two starts. He lasted five innings May 6 at New Hampshire, allowing four runs on eight hits, before giving up five runs over 5.1 frames on May 10. Jannis has tossed at least five innings in all six of his starts and has only allowed more than two runs twice. In 2016, Jannis was 1-2 with an 8.27 ERA in three starts against Altoona.
ALTOONA STARTER: RHP Austin Coley readies for his ninth appearance of the season and his sixth start. After back-to-back bullpen showings, Coley tossed six scoreless innings against New Hampshire on May 11. The 24-year-old didn’t earn a decision in Altoona’s 4-3 win. Coley was an 8th round draft pick in 2014 and is a Double-A rookie in his fourth professional season. He was a part of the Bradenton Marauders’ Florida State League championship team in 2016.
BATS HEATING IN A HURRY: After recording two hits in each of their last two games, Binghamton exploded for 13 hits in Tuesday’s win. The Rumble Ponies had scored just one run over their prior two games, before Tuesday’s ten-run output. The 10 runs and 13 hits are both two shy of a season-high.
TAYLOR’s TOUCH: OF Kevin Taylor launched his third home run of the season in Tuesday’s four-run fifth inning. Taylor’s third long ball, his first two-run shot, ties him with Cody Decker for the team lead. The 25-year old drove a season-high three runs and has recorded an RBI in seven of the last eight games.
BIONDI GETS BUSY: OF Patrick Biondi accounted for one-third of Altoona’s outs, making nine catches in center field. Biondi also began the four-run fifth inning rally with a leadoff single, after making a spectacular catch to end the top half of the frame. He finished the night 1-for-3 with two runs and walk.
LUIS LUIS: INF Luis Guillorme recorded two hits on Tuesday, giving him his team-leading 10th multi-hit game of the season. The next closest Rumble Ponies are Matt Oberste, Kevin Taylor, and Patrick Biondi, each of whom have six multi-hit games. Guillorme is also the only Rumble Pony to record two, three, four, and five hits in game this season and leads the team with 39 hits.
UP NEXT: Binghamton concludes its three-game series against Altoona on Thursday morning. LHP P.J. Conlon battles Curve RHP Yeudy Garcia. First pitch is scheduled for 10:35 AM at NYSEG Stadium.
