Binghamton Rumble Ponies starter Chris Flexen has been named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week. On Thursday night against the Reading Fightin Phils, he took a no-hit bid into the eighth inning en route to his fifth win in six starts with the Ponies. The righty combined with Scarlyn Reyes for Binghamton’s first nine-inning one-hitter in more than two years.
Selected by the Mets in the 14th round in 2012, Flexen has gone 5-1 with a 1.73 ERA since getting promoted to Double-A in early June. Flexen has thrown at least six innings in each of his starts with Binghamton and has allowed two runs or fewer in all but one game.
Flexen becomes the third Rumble Pony to earn league honors this year. Champ Stuart and PJ Conlon were also recognized by the league in May.
Get him to Queens in September if he stays healthy - he is killing AA. He does not need the Vegas Experience.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, Thomas. It would be great if he was a viable option for next year's rotation. It would be nice - though it'll never happen - if they could convince Harvey (cuz, apparently we need players' buy-in for stuff like this) to try to re-make himself as a closer. It might lengthen, or even save his career. And he might be damn good at it.
ReplyDeleteAdam nice thought but the two big problem's with that suggestion are his ego and Scott Boras.
ReplyDeleteI know. It's unfortunate though.
DeleteBoras will look at what will bring Harvey the most $$. If he can be a stellar reliever/closer but remain a lousy starting pitcher, money would be in the relief role. Then Hello, Closer Harvey.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Peter.
ReplyDeleteMy old favorite Akeel Morris is now on the Braves and in 3.2 IP, 1 hit no walks 4 Ks. Oh, well
I agree about seeing Flexen in September. Keep him away from the bullpen burners.
ReplyDeleteAn unrelated note -- last year's primary first baseman, James Loney, had better develop a taste for bulgogi, bibimbap and kim chee. He just signed a one-year deal to play in South Korea.
ReplyDeleteLoney needs a residence with a bomb shelter over there!
ReplyDeleteHe will hit a lot of bibimbaps over there...
