Tom Brennan - GRANDY: MORE THAN JUST BATTING AVERAGE
Sometimes we forget players are people.
Sometimes we need to remember that a hitter is more than just his batting average.
Sometimes you hear one picture is worth a thousand words.
Here is a picture of my nephew and niece and her boyfriend at a recent game - it speaks volumes:
Clearly: Grandy is a great guy. One of baseball's great guys.
We'll miss him when his Mets playing days come to an end, perhaps soon via trade, or after the season, or whenever.
By all accounts Jason Bay was a great guy, too, but when you're paid $60 million to perform and do so at an inconsistent level with an average of .239/27/69 then hey, don't let the door hit you on the way out. He had averaged .261/30/83 prior to coming to Queens.
ReplyDeleteI don't disagree, Reese. We really haven't gotten full value. But when a guy can be a real gentleman vs. a guy with the same performance but not a real team guy, I'll take the gent....and so will most teammates.
ReplyDeleteTGIF, EVERYONE, AND MAY THE TRADE WINDS BLOW IN OUR DIRECTION.
ReplyDeleteGranderson has produced 9.8 WAR for the Mets. WAR is considered to be worth more than 8 million per each point of WAR. So he has been worth more than 78 million for the Mets. And that doesn't include his leadership and goodwill. I would say the Mets got a great deal!!!
