- Venados de Mazatlan 5 - 9 Mayos de Navojoa
- Aguilas de Mexicali 2 - 3 Charros de Jalisco
- Tomateros de Culiacan 4 - 17 Naranjeros de Hermosillo
- LHP Jose Carlos Medina: 3.2 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 2 HR allowed
- Medina was brought into the game in the 1st inning after the starter Dusten Knight gave up 5 runs while only recording 2 outs. He got passed the first 6 batters unscathed before allowing a HR to Bryce Brentz in the 3rd inning but bounced back to retire Robert Ramos to end the 3rd. Instead of taking him out though, Manager Benji Gil, threw him out there for another inning of work. Sure enough, Medina got tagged for 2 ER on 3 H and a sac fly before getting out of the inning. Take him out, right? Nope Gil sends him back out AGAIN for the 5th inning with Medina on 61 pitches thrown. Another HR to Brentz, 2 singles, and 14 more pitches and Medina was finally mercifully taken out. That was a total of 75 pitches on the day. Medina has not thrown more than 22 pitches in a game since September 2nd. I'm sure Gil will be receiving a call from Sandy Alderson sometime today.

ReplyDeleteSandy doesn't have any control re: Medina,does he?
@Mack
ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to the caribbean leagues......GMs do not have any direct control. However, in most cases their are general agreed upon directives of usage.
At the end of the day though how a player is used is completely up to each winter league team's manager.
Sandy can (and probably will) voice his opinion on the though
