The New York Mets are hiring former Boston Red Sox bench coach Gary DiSarcina as their bench coach in 2018. The Mets Jhoan Urena is now playing 1B in the DWL. Cleveland picked up the $12mil option on Michael Brantley. 1B Wilin Rosario (Korea: .330), OF Roger Bernadina (Korea: .320) and OF Nolan Reimond all want to return to USA baseball from Korea. C Matt Wieters exercised his option to remain with the Nats. Toronto decline their option on 37-year old OF Jose Bautista.
I have a horrible suspicion that Sandy Alderson will look at him as a short term (payroll flexibility) solution at a bargain price as he needs a bat until Michael Conforto returns. 170Ks and .203 AVG. Sorry, but two consecutive years of HRs in the low 20s doesn't suggest he's the solution.
Hmmm joey bats .... maybe 3 years ago
ReplyDeleteJoey Bats follows me on TWitter... Go figure.

ReplyDeleteI would 100% take a look at Jose Bautista on a 1 year $6M contract to be the fill in RF until Conforto is healthy.
ReplyDeleteIf he performs well....great....keep him in RF, slide Conforto to CF again.
If not.....at least its only a 1 year deal. We could do a lot worse with $6M (Cough...cough....Alejandro De Aza....cough)
For the same 6 mil or less we can get a better all-around backup in Aoki. Bautista is a one-dimensional guy, and that dimension is shrinking.
ReplyDeleteKind of with Bill on Aoki vs. Bautista....Aoki has been remarkably consistent with quality output, while Bautista's decline may just continue.
ReplyDeleteCan someone explain Ruben Amaro?
ReplyDeleteViper, I can't even explain a Ruben sandwich. Maybe this organization was feeling Ruben withdrawal since Tejada left.
