RP Wade Davis has agreed to a deal with Colorado (3-yr, $52mil),
Marc Carig is reporting that it is "highly unlikely" that the Mets sign either OF-1B Jay Bruce or 2B Neil Walker. He made thse coments on a Mets blog podcast, so it's hard to determine if this was more that just his opinion. What I do assume is, after his blistering story on the Wilpons earlier this month, that he isn't getting much inside info from members of the Mets family lately.

The Marlins are now actively trying to trade OF Christian Yelich and C J.T. Realmuto.
There is an unofficial report on Twitter that the Yankees have completed a deal with the Pirates for the services of P Gerrit Cole.
But...
That's crazy money for a guy who will throw less then 80 innings.....granted, they are high leverage innings, but still!
ReplyDelete17.5 million per year for an above average closer? Yikes....I wonder what Familia will eventually command when he hits free agency.
I can see the logic of a bullpen by committee, if you have the committee, of course.
Mike -
ReplyDeleteThe reliever bar just went way up.
The good news I take out of this is that A.J. Ramos at $9.5 or so in arbitration just became a more desirable commodity to trade.
ReplyDeleteMatz, Smith, Gimenez, Peterson, Dunn, Guillorme and D’Arnaud for Yellich and Realmuto
ReplyDeleteIt's a big bucks, big boy game. Wilpons have watched on the sidelines an awful lot. Offseason is not over, even if 2017 just about is. Zozo's deal works for me.
ReplyDeleteI think ZoZo started his New Year’s party a bit early! Kidding aside, I think you could get the pair for less then that......or, I would pass, personally.
ReplyDeleteMatz alone should be worth one of them, but I am biased.
I'm with Mike again. If we make that deal, we have wiped out an already very thin system. I'd offer Lagares and super slugger Wilmer for Yelish, and add a prospect if needed.
ReplyDeleteAs for Realmuto, I want to see a full season of the Travis/KP combo that looked so impressive once KP was recalled last year. If it doesn't work, and Nido doesn't look ready for '19 then I look elsewhere a year from now.
Yelich has played CF hasn't he?
ReplyDeleteI would target Yelich as priority #1 to add to the future core of the Mets.
Of course his former teammate Ozuna would have been an even better target, but that ship sailed while the Mets were looking at train schedules.
Have no fear, loyal readers...Sandy Alderson just assured the World Series for 2018. He signed Drew Gagnon, he of the 6.25 ERA last year in the minors. Woo hoo!
