Tom Brennan - JUAN LAGARES, WITH POWER?

BOOM!!!

Juan Lagares isn't just sitting at home this off season twiddling his repaired thumbs - he is trying to get MUCH BETTER with the bat.

Terrific article by James Wagner in the NY Times today.

This defensive genius, IF HE COULD STAY HEALTHY, and if he can make some real bat improvements, would be a real Mets outfield asset in 2018.

Ready for Liftoff: Juan Lagares Alters His Swing in Bid to Impress the Mets - James Wagner

Even defensive-minded players, such as Mets center fielder Juan Lagares, are now giving this new offensive approach a whirl. He has turned to the same private hitting instructors — Craig Wallenbrock and Robert Van Scoyoc — that helped change the career path of Taylor, a playoff star for the Los Angeles Dodgers, and Martinez, a free agent who has become one of baseball’s elite power hitters.

  1. I wish Juan all the success in the world. He is a really nice guy with a golden arm.

  2. If he could hit, he could also be a great THIRD BASEMAN. He has a gun for an arm, for sure.

  3. He really wasn't a bad shortstop in Savannah but he tended to hot dog a little too much on routine plays. If they had a stat for this, he would have led the league in 'errors created".

  4. Ha ha.

Totally an aside, but I was curious with Francesa leaving WFAN how old he is - 63.

Then I looked up John Sterling - shocked - he will turn EIGHTY next summer and Susan Waldman is 71. I'm sure if he retires, she will too - I cannot imagine her being paired up with someone else.

When can we expect to see the reviews on the Lagares article from West Texas?
