While Alderson Keeps Waiting for the Phone to Ring...

Right hander Brandon Morrow gets signed by the Cubs for 2 years in the $10-$11 million range.

Right hander Luke Gregerson gets signed by the Cardinals to an almost identical deal.

Do you see how that works?  Clubs that want to win actively try to make deals instead of "waiting for the market to come to" them?

If I'm Bryan Shaw's agent I'm drooling right now as the number of available resources starts to dwindle, thus raising the price of the ones still left.  Remind me again who is the smartest guy in the room?

  1. Frankly, I don't care what reliever we sign this year.

Judging from his off season program, and the addition of a 4th pitch, I predict Josh Smoker to step up and be the next great reliever

  2. Well, Mack, you may get your wish. After all, he added no one last year and has gone on record saying he didn't need no stinking starting pitchers this year either. So doing nothing plays into his strength as a GM.

    1. When did he say that? I've seen a number of reports saying that he is looking for a veteran starter who can give us 200 innimgs.

  3. Well, not a blazing start to the offseason, I will agree.

However, I will reserve judgement until we know exactly who will make up our
roster going into ST (and hope Sandy does something between now and then).

I agree on Smoker, Mack......he may play a pretty big role in our bullpen this year.

  4. If Smoker is good enough, he might get a Marlboro commercial. Sandy, you're boring us. ZZZZZZ.

  6. And from the NY Post's Mike Puma, Alderson's plan is to wait:

"Heard Alderson is sending out signals to agents that he may wait until after the Winter Meetings, maybe even into January, to sign a reliever. Meshes with his statement earlier about seeking "value" instead of jumping "into the inferno."

  7. You prefer the "inferno"? 😀
