  1. I'm sorry for Lopez but kudos to the Gigantes for wanting to win. I wonder what it's like to root for a team that has that philosophy?

  2. These guys are uninspiring:

Carillo has hit fairly well, but the guy leading his league, hitting nearly .400, is a Mexican League lifer, and Carillo has hit nowhere near as well as him.

Can Urena hit, or will he just settle into a minor league low orbit but never make it to Queens? Last year was a decent bounceback, but he now needs a breakout season.

  3. I guess Lopez can now join Dusty Baker and Joe Girardi in the "dumped for only winning the Division" category.

  4. Speaking of fired managers, does anyone know how Wally's team did in Mexico this year? I haven't heard anything about him since we let him go a year ago.

  5. @Bill

Well....Wally was only manager for 42 of the games. He was fired by the Monclova Acereros after a 22-20 start due to communication problems between him and the players.

The post-Backman team went on to produce a 45-21 record the rest of the way, make the playoffs and make it all the way to the championship where they lost.

  6. Interesting. With the outcry when the Mets fired him, I'm surprised I haven't heard this before.

Do you know if he got a job somewhere else?

  7. @bill

He was hired as a bench coach for the Pericos de Puebla in the same league for the remainder of 2017 after which he was not hired back.

For 2018, Backman has been named manager of the New Britain Bees of the Atlantic League (Independent Baseball)

  8. How the mighty have fallen. I wonder if any who wanted him to replace Terry have changed their minds about him.

Thanks for the info, Chris. 👍

  9. I'd have taken Wally Backman drunk over a sober Terry Collins. Oh wait...Terry had a very public DUI, didn't he?

I wish the Mets had done the Yankee thing and after losing the World Series put him out to pasture as the Bronx Bombers did with Yogi Berra.

There's nothing wrong with wanting to win. I don't wear losing like a badge of honor like the Cubs did for so many years.

  10. Sneak preview of the opening of the next Star Wars:

"A long, long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, in a land known as El Paso, there lived a man so consumed with hatred for a good man named Terry that he could not suppress it. When the man from El Paso passed away at the age of 125, his last words were, 'bury me with a picture of Terry so I can curse him for all eternity'."

Love can come and go, but hate is forever. 😕
