1) Andres Gimenez, SS, Grade B/B+: Age 19, hit .265/.346/.349 against older competition in Low-A, with 14 steals, 28 walks, 61 strikeouts in 347 at-bats; huge jump from Dominican Summer League and he held his own very well; best offensive tool is speed, not much power at this point but his OBP skills look solid so far and he could be a top-of-the-lineup mainstay as he develops physically; more
2. David Peterson, LHP, Grade B/B+
3. Peter Alonso, 1B, Grade B-/B
4. Mark Vientos, 3B, Grade B
5. Luis Guillorme, SS-2B, Grade B-

WOW - Luis Guillorme at # 5 - that is by far his highest rank yet. Good for him.
ReplyDeleteHe could be the future at 2B?!?!
ReplyDeleteI like to imagine a future infield of all home grown Mets, with Gimenez (3B), Rosario (SS), Guilllorme (2B) and Smith (1B).....or maybe Alonso, instead?
Re: Guillorme
ReplyDeleteA lot of people think Mr. Guillorme has to hit the ball over the wall to make it as a Mets infielder.
I don't.
My hopes is he just duplicated 80% of the stat line he has consistently produced in the minors.
And...
it seems to be turning out that he is a BETTER defensive second baseman than he was at short (if that is possible).
I sure wish I was early on this kid.
If Guillorme can maintain a .340 OBA in the bigs, he can start at 2B for me. This will not be easy, as his lack of power means that pitchers will not be afraid to throw him strikes, and his lack of top end speed means few IF hits. But that glove!
