The Jupiter Hammerheads completed a three-game sweep of the St. Lucie Mets with a rain-shortened 1-0 win on Sunday at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.
Miami Marlins pitcher Wei-Yin Chen (elbow) made a rehab start and dominated. He shut out the Mets for five innings and held them to two singles. He struck out seven and did not walk a batter. Sixty of Chen’s 73 pitchers were strikes.
Mets starter Briam Campusano gave up just two hits and one run four innings. He walked three and struck out four. Campusano faced the minimum over his last three innings.
Campusano ran into his only trouble in the first inning. He retired the first two batters but then faltered by walking three and allowing a single. Stone Garrett’s walk with the bases loaded brought home the only run of the game.
The Mets had a good chance to tie in the fourth inning. Andres Gimenez singled and stole second base. A ground out moved him over to third. However, the Mets couldn’t get him home as Chen recovered for a strikeout and ground out to get out of trouble.
The game was called due to weather with the Hammerheads batting in the bottom of the fifth.
The Mets (7-9) return home on Monday to start a seven-game home stand. First up is a three-game series against the Charlotte Stone Crabs. First pitch on Monday from First Data Field is set for 6:30 p.m. All kids 12-and-under get in free.
