RUBBERDUCKS SINK PONIES AGAIN: Akron scored first for the second straight night, topping Binghamton 5-1 at NYSEG Stadium on Tuesday night. A four-run sixth inning proved plenty for RHPShane Bieber, who allowed just four hits across seven innings. He held the Rumble Ponies scoreless while issuing no walks.

BINGHAMTON STARTER: LHP Daniel Zamora is expected to make his first professional start in his second appearance with the Rumble Ponies.. While Zamora made his Eastern League debut with Altoona last year, he made his Binghamton debut on April 8 against Portland. He allowed two earned runs over 1.2 innings. The 24-year-old is in his fourth professional season out of SUNY Stony Brook.

PISTOL PETE: Rumble Ponies 1B Peter Alonso finished Tuesday’s game 2-for-4 with a double, giving him at least one hit in each of Binghamton’s first five games. The 3rd year pro is 8-for-18 (.444) with two HR, three doubles, and four RBI. His .444 average is second in the Eastern League only to Altoona’s Stephen Alemais.

FIRE DEPARTMENT: The Binghamton bullpen has whiffed 25 batters in 17.2 innings pitched this season. The Rumble Ponies rank seventh in the Eastern League (54 K), despite having played one fewer game than most other teams. Gerson Bautista has eight strikeouts in just 3.0 innings to lead all Rumble Ponies relievers.

PATS OFF: After going hitless in his first 14 at bats, C Patrick Mazeika collected two hits and finished 2-for-4 on Tuesday night. Mazeika and Peter Alonso accounted for four of Binghamton’s five hits in the loss

OFFENSIVE WOES: The Rumble Ponies have scored runs in just two of the last 20 half innings. After failing to score in the final two innings on April 9 against Portland, Binghamton scored all three of their Monday runs in the seventh inning. Last night, Binghamton’s lone tally crossed in the bottom of the ninth inning on an Akron error.

BROOM REVERSAL: Binghamton began their season with a three-game sweep of the Portland Sea Dogs at NYSEG Stadium. On Wednesday night, the Rumble Ponies try to avoid being swept by Akron, who came to the Southern Tier at (1-3).

THE ROAD AHEAD: Binghamton readies for its first road trip of the season after a league-wide off day on Thursday. The Rumble Ponies head to Portland for a three-game set at Hadlock Field, before trekking to New Hampshire for a four-game series. Red Sox LHP Drew Pomeranz is expected to pitch against the Ponies this Friday night.

UP NEXT: After a league-wide off day, the Rumble Ponies begin a seven-game road trip in Portland on Friday night. RHP Andrew Church is slated to take on Major League rehabber LHP Drew Pomeranz with a 6:00 PM first pitch at Hadlock Field.
