Tom Brennan - EXTENDED SPRING TRAINING
Jonathan Mayo has posted where the top 30 Mets prospects will be playing. I won't re-list them here.
Several are listed as "EXTENDED SPRING TRAINING."
A few of those are really young top prospects guys, so that is completely expected: Vientos, Mauricio, Hernandez.
Either later this spring for full season ball for 18 year old Mark Vientos, as was done with Andres Gimenez last season at the same age, or he will most likely be stationed at Brooklyn after Vientos' fine rookie season in the GCL in 2017.
Four are listed as such because they presumably are hurt:
Peterson, Sanchez, Guerrero, and Becerra.
Hopefully, all four are dealing with only minor injuries.
Sadly, 2 others in Mayo's top 30 list are listed bluntly:
Thomas Szapucki and Jordan Humphrey are listed as:
OUT FOR THE SEASON.
Ouch...it hurts to read that.
But super-prospect Andres Giminez is 19 and starting at SS for St Lucie. That is exciting.
And it should be an exciting Mets minor leagues season.
Szap & Humphrey gone? Didn't know that (expected late start for Szap though).
