Good morning.
This is my latest
composite mock draft, using the past 10 mocks I have found in the net.
Remember…this is NOT my mock. I posted earlier this month what I think the
first six picks would be and I chose 3B Alec Bohm as
the Mets pick at number six.

We could have had the 499th slot if the. Mets had not run out the hot Reyes/Aoki/Cabrera trifecta so much last Sept, but I have beat that horse before.
ReplyDeleteI would like Madrigal, Kelenic, Swaggerty, Bart, Bohm or India.
Not enough of a feel to know which would be best.
I want a toolsy, can't miss guy...a future star. As I am getting older, I get more impatient, so if Kelenic cannot project to be ready for the majors by late 2020, I am not interested. Anyone picked, I want ready in 2020 to step in and start for the Mets.
4th slot, not 499th. My tablet is so weird with changing numbers. Need to watch it like a hawk.
ReplyDeleteBoo, hawks.
ReplyDeleteOf course, if there is a Max Scherzer in the draft, take him. His last 6 seasons, only one with a WHIP over 1.00. Strikes out the world. Currently the best pitcher on the planet now that Kershaw seems to be getting back issues.
ReplyDeleteHis first 3 years, though, he was only 22-26. Even Superman takes time to mature.
Here's the problem with wanting someone in Queens by 2020.
ReplyDeleteIt simply is not going to happen under the ownership and management of this team. They do not move either high school or college players that quick.
EVERY draft pick starts out either in Brooklyn, Kingsport, or the GCL Mets. They will most probably end 2018 on a short season team.
No one is going to elevate 4 levels in 2 seasons under Sandy's watch.
Also, there are money concerns from Scrooge in the front office.
Lastly, name me one player that has warranted moving 4 levels in 2 seasons, based on how they performed at those levels?
Conforto?
How is that working out?
Mack, good points - I just want the next Kris Bryant or Bryce Harper, who made it that fast, or faster, but those are # 1 picks.
ReplyDeleteI refuse to give in and just watch the Mets' games from 2015 on SNY!
ReplyDeleteI keep asking myself, what is it that is missing here?
All I can come up with are these things:
1. The Mets do not have here right now, a healthy and really consistent impact batter sure thing. Look at the Red Sox, they have two right now Betts and JD Martinez. The best players we have here right now (because Cespedes is a little dinged up at the quad) all others tend to hit (usually but not always)in spurts.
2. The Mets (I think anyway) need to explore having the three right-handed starters and three left-handed starters in the same one rotation. Why? Because I really am beginning to think that a left-handed starter has a sincere edge over a right-handed starter (but not always just usually) because the average MLB and MiLB batter does not get to see as many left-handed starters coming up or once here in MLB. Plus, it offers a real difference in pitching look from the norm, which is from a right-handed starter.
I like a lot deGrom, Syndergaard, and Wheeler from the right side, a lot. We have Matz who has been impressive lately, but we need one to two more lefty starters to make this work out.
Perhaps the Mets could audition Buddy Bauman for one of these lefty starter spots after stretching him out. Or maybe even Regnault or Conlon. But they will still need one more lefty, a really impressive younger one. Like for instance here a Jalen Beeks from AAA Boston Red Sox.
Down on The Farm:
Brentz, Tebow, Cecchini, and Alonso still all hitting well. Let's Go Mets!!!
