St. Lucie 2 - Fort Myers 1

FORT MYERS, Fla. (May 18, 2018) – The St. Lucie Mets clipped the Fort Myers Miracle 2-1 on Friday at Hammond Stadium.

After two straight rain outs, the Mets came out sharp on the mound Friday night. Starter Josh Prevost pitched his best game of the season. He scattered three singles and did not allow an earned run over seven innings.

Prevost hit one batter, walked on batter and struck out six. He only threw 82 pitches in earning the victory. It was his third straight quality start.

Matt Blackham tossed a perfect eighth with one strikeout. Matt Pobereyko slammed the door with a perfect ninth for his third save in three chances.

The Mets broke a 1-1 tie in the third inning when Kevin Kaczmarski pulled a two-out RBI single into right field to plate Andres Gimenez.

The Mets previously tied the game in the inning on a RBI ground out by Anthony Dimino.

The Miracle scored their only run in the first inning. Prevost plunked leadoff hitter Mark Contreras. Later in the inning with two outs, an errant throw to first base by Mike Paez skipped away and let Contreras score an unearned run.

Prevost was lights out after that. He went on to retire 10 in a row after the error. He did not allow a hit until Jaylin Davis singled to start the fifth inning. Davis was thrown out trying to steal second by catcher Dan Rizzie to end the inning.

Prevost got out of his biggest jam in the sixth inning. With runners on second and third, Dash Winningham scooped a low throw from the shortstop Gimenez to secure the final out on a grounder by Jimmy Kerrigan. The scoop saved two runs from scoring and preserved the 2-1 Mets lead.

Paez, Rizzie and Luis Carpio hit doubles for the Mets.

Miracle starter Tyler Wells gave up two runs in 4.2 innings.

The Mets (17-20) and Miracle (17-24) continue their series on Saturday. First pitch from Hammond Stadium is scheduled for 6 p.m.
