Press Release:

DAYTONA, Fla. (May 24, 2018) – Luis Carpio hit a clutch three-run double, Josh Prevost made another stellar start and the St. Lucie Mets beat the Daytona Tortugas 4-2 on Thursday at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.

Prevost limited the Tortugas to two runs, one earned, over seven innings. He scattered five hits, walked four and struck out a season-high seven. It was Prevost’s fourth straight quality start in May. The Mets are 4-0 in his starts this month. He owns a 1.70 ERA in May after finishing April with a 7.71 ERA.

The Mets broke a 1-1 tie in the third inning. After Tortugas starter Ryan Olson retired the first two batters of the inning, Andres Gimenez and Desmond Lindsay reached and stole bases. Then Anthony Dimino drew a walk to load the bases.

Carpio came up and quickly fell behind 0-2. But he drove a 1-2 pitch into the left-center field gap to clear the bases with a three-run double. The hit put the Mets up 4-1. It was the first extra base hit for the Mets with the bases loaded this year. They were previously 6 for 40 with six singles.

The Tortugas scored an unearned run off of Prevost in the bottom of the third with a two-out RBI single from T.J. Friedl.

Prevost worked out of jams in the fifth and sixth innings. In the fifth, Taylor Trammell lined into an inning-ending double play to Gimenez at shortstop.

In the sixth, the Mets intentionally walked Bruce Yari with one out to load the bases. The move paid off when Narciso Crook hit a comebacker to the mound that Prevost turned into a 1-2-3 double play to end the inning.

Reliever Matt Pobereyko recorded a six-out save. He struck out five batters, including pinch hitter Mitch Nay to end the game with runners on first and second.

Pobereyko is now 4 for 4 in save chances.

Gimenez went 3 for 3 with a double and a walk. He stole three bases.

Desmond Lindsay went 2 for 3 with a walk, stolen base, run and RBI.
