Take, for instance, Scott Manea, certainly a household name in places such as the Manea household.
Scott plays in 2018 for the Columbia Fireflies.
In 24 games, he is hitting a mere .319/.484/.528.
MERE?? Now how is THAT for an always-on-base %, and a nice slugging % too. Hot diggity dog.
"Yeah, but there must be something wrong with him, right, Tom? He probably can't throw out any runners."
Yeah, sure, you're right - he doesn't throw out everyone...
But 11 out of 17 cut down in 2018 - yep, Mr. T, cutting down 65% of the fools who think they can run on him, now that's not so bad - even Travis d'Arnaud thought so.
Now that I have your attention, I know you're asking:
So I'll ask too...who the HECK is Scott Manea?
Scott Manea was drafted in 2014's 40th round by Seattle.
Pick # 1,191.
I heard that undrafted TJ Rivera was jealous.
Seattle surely wanted to snatch him in the first round, but showed patience, and snatched him in the 40th round instead when no one was looking.
They didn't sign him though - reading his mind, I am guessing Scott must have been thinking:
"Screw Seattle, I wanna be a Met!"
He eventually signed in July 2016 with the Mets and started his career then.
He got up 38 times in 2016, just four hits.
Yeah, I know what you're thinking.
In 2017, with Brooklyn, he plays 37 games, hits .223.
Yeah, I know what you're thinking.
And through 2017, he had thrown out just 13 of 60 guys.
Yeah, I know what you're thinking.
THIS GUY STINKS...COME ON, ADMIT IT.
But wait - not so fast tossing a stink bomb Scott's way.
in 2017, despite hitting .223, he had a .380 OBP.
The best OBP of any Cyclone hitter up at least 100 times.
Hmm, maybe he doesn't stink.
And Manea struck out just once every 7 at bats.
OK, maybe he doesn't stink.
And then, in 2018, well...you read above how phenomenally well he is doing so far.
HE SURE AS HECK DOESN'T STINK.
BRO, THIS GUY IS - LIKE - REALLY GOOD!
Scott, you're on my radar screen now - and remember this:
You may have been drafted way down in the 40th round.
But fellow catcher Mike Piazza was drafted in the 62nd round in 1988 - and guess what - HE DIDN'T STINK!
Scott, I am looking forward to you being the Mets' next Mike Piazza, because YOU DON'T STINK!
And I hope there is future SCOTT MANIA at Citifield!
Sent your post to Scott.
ReplyDeleteGreat. Job well done.
ReplyDeleteYours, Mack's, or Scott's? 😀
DeleteNice work......catching prospects are few and far in between. Let's hope he continues to develop!
ReplyDeleteBill, Scott's job well done...Mack being the MVP around here goes without saying
ReplyDeleteHey Mack!
ReplyDeleteI concur with you on trying to acquire JT Realmuto here. But what would it conceivably take? Do we have the pieces to send in return even?
Hmm.
What about one of our one too many CF's?
Perhaps some younger players too. A package deal, that's what Miami would want back. Like Thompson, Crismatt, Molina, and a CF from the parent club, and Smith? Maybe?
Hmm.
What's your guess Mack? But you are spot on sir with this because the Mets need to add a batter who can hit more consistently in the lineup. They have been missing this awhile too. Just having spurt hitters can be tricky for a team because what happens if they all go cold together? Oh boy.
