LAKELAND, Fla. (June 9, 2018) – The Lakeland Flying Tigers blanked the St. Lucie Mets 1-0 at Joker Marchant Stadium on Saturday.
Mets stater Harol Gonzalez suffered a tough luck loss. He pitched a complete game and only gave up three hits and one run. He did not walk a batter and struck out seven.
Lakeland scored the only run in the seventh inning. Isaac Paredes led off the frame with a single. He moved to second on a wild pitch and advanced to third on a fly out to center field.
Troy Montgomery lifted a RBI sac fly to left field to bring home Paredes for a 1-0 lead.
The Mets didn’t have many scoring opportunities. Andres Gimenez broke up a potential no-hitter with an infield single in the sixth.
The Mets hit three singles in the eighth inning, but a double play and an out made on the base paths stifled the opportunity to score a run for Gonzalez.
Lakeland starting pitcher Alfred Gutierrez threw five no-hit innings. He walked two, struck out three and threw 80 pitches.
Reliever Burris Warner logged three scoreless innings to get the win. Closer Eduardo Jimenez only needed six pitches for a perfect ninth. He collected his 10th save in 10 tries.
The Mets had four singles from Gimenez, Gene Cone, Anthony Dimino and Ian Strom.
The Mets have not had to use their bullpen through two games in the series. The starters – Josh Prevost and Gonzalez – have combined for 17 innings, four hits, one run, no walks and 16 strikeouts.
Hitting has been sparse for St Lucie.
